  1. I came down the Wigan flight yesterday with help from a couple of kind people from a Facebook group called the Wigan Flight Crew. As a single hander it made a big difference on this difficult flight. A big thank you to Andy & Christine who braved the freezing temperatures to help. https://www.facebook.com/groups/WiganFlightCrew/
  2. £60K !!! Many of us with boats would like a £60k boat for free.
  3. I came through this afternoon. The pound was quite low but passable.
  4. Very amusing but perhaps better in the virtual pub - I assume it has a toilet.
  5. Thanks Steve, I'm well on the way and currently between Burnley and Blackburn so I have ample time as you say. Fortunately I'm a live aboard cc'er so delays don't really bother me too much but it must be a pain for folk trying to plan holiday cruises when the dates keep changing.
  6. Any idea when this will be confirmed as I'm currently trying to get across the L&L in time to get through the Bridgewater to Preston Brook before they close it. I'm probably one of the few that would welcome a delay.
  7. Thanks Nick, I have a BVM fitted. However a false alarm as when I looked this morning the engine -ve is connected to the correctly side of the shunt. I now remember buying the longer cable to reach.
  8. When I used it in the summer I found them very helpful so hopefully it's just an IT glitch. Their contact details are: Tuffblack Ltd Old Keepers Dulas Hereford HR2 0HL UK Phone +44 (0)333 405 4045 Cell +44 (0)7887 770 007 info@tuffblack.com
  9. Hi Nick, I'm concerned that my setup is not correct as I have a link between the engine and leisure negative terminals. Should I remove this ?
  10. Ah didn't think of that There are quite a few branches down after the gales. Hopefully I cleared it as I went through.
  11. Hi, I've just come through lock 35 on the L&L which had new top gates fitted last month and was surprised at the amount of leakage through the cill. Juts wondered if new gates take a while to bed in and this is normal or if there is a fault.
  12. Thanks, I recall they were bad when I came up a couple of years ago. I'm hoping I might meet up with someone else going down as I'm single handed and that flight is hard work.
  13. Not me I'm afraid I'm just leaving Skipton. Although funnily enough when I came through Plank lane a couple of years ago I had to wait for CART to reset it.

  15. Thanks for that info Steve. I'll check with the Wigan office after Christmas.
  16. Thanks for the advice. Thankfully I've spent the last few weeks trundling along the canal from Bingley to Burnley and back enjoying the stunning views. I thought the Bridgewater had already closed but I've just realised it's been delayed until 9 Jan so I can get over and enjoy a month or two in the north west before a return trip on the Huddersfield.
  17. Hi, I'm currently in Skipton and looking to continue over the L&L to Wigan and then through the Bridgewater canal to Preston Brook before it closes for 3 months on 9 Jan. As far as I can tell from the CART site there are no planned stoppages on the route between now and 9 Jan. Is anyone aware of any problems along the route that could delay me? Merry Christmas
  18. Looks like the same bridge. As Patrick said you can just see the top of the pier above the man's shoulder. The two uprights are visible and you can just make out the arched ornament on the top rail.

  20. They have been bookable by phone but now available on line. You can book on-line passage through things like the Liverpool link and Standegde tunnel which is handy.
  21. Don't say that - the GU will be drained by the number of boats racing down to take your space.
  22. Having travelled that canal I can assure you there are plenty of widebeams moored along the way. Several on CART bankside moorings. One of the annoying things about Nicholson's is the amount of out of date info.
  23. An interesting point but it was at bridge 149 when I passed last month, there is also a border marker nearby (post above). As Barnoldswick was in Yorkshire prior to the 1974 reorg maybe it's the old border and CaRT haven't moved the signs.
  24. Mine just sits on the roof although as a single hander there's no one to throw it if I fall off
