That's an offside mooring, the photo is taken from the towpath.

The real difficulty is when two boats arrive together from opposite sides. One skippered by an optimist and the other a pessimist, who can't agree if the lock is half empty or half full.

Seeing the wildlife is one of the highlights of canal cruising for me.

If you look closely you'll see it's complete with a large pump out holding tank.

Good news for those wishing to enjoy the Thames.

Seems odd that all the cassettes are faulty but I have heard that shaking the cassette too hard while rinsing can bend the float arm.. To test the float put a clean cassette in the loo and half fill it with fresh water and then check inside to see if the float does in fact float. If it does then fill the tank to the point you consider to be full, probably leaving a bit empty at the top, and if the float is still floating try bend the float arm downwards a little so that the float arm makes contact with the switch.

Hi I note you have changed the glowplugs but have you checked they are actually getting power - should be a noticeable drop in voltage when the key is turned.

Thanks for the info. As you say there is plenty to explore outside Germany.

It was mainly the access to Germany. As for training I plan to do the relevant training because, as you say, there are large commercial boats making a living on the system who will expect others to know how to behave. Thanks Daniel. I think the potential impact of Britex was a fair point to raise and is certainly something I'll be watching over the next couple of years. However, there is little point in speculation at this stage.

I'll be interested to see how the 15m rule is applied in future as I'm 16.7
