  1. Actually I'd disagree. Mooring at landcroft Park by the mile post is a lovely spot. I moored there for a week and it was really nice.
  2. Hmm yeah don't fancy a shotgun encounter
  3. Yes those wonderful summer evenings are amazing on the river even in towns or villages. My first boating experience and mooring was on the river so it feels like home. Determination helps when trying to Moor on the river. My collie will jump most gaps, never uses the boarding plank unless the rarity of a tired sheepdog occurs lol Ive spent a night at that pontoon by the Droitwich once, it was a good stop but missing the laying out on the grass factor. Will probably give up on the Severn idea and wait till after exams and treat myself to a trip on the Avon

  5. Yes I still have Rose of York and it probably would have been us in Kiddy this time last year. If we were in an odd place (by the flats round the bend from sainsburys) I would most likely have been doing my floor. If by the lock near the watermill, that would have been before the floor when I was still fitting the kitchen. I Remember going on walks to get away from DIY frequently Poor people with babies too lol
  6. Just realised I should have posted this on the social/banter section Out of practice
  7. I Can't think of anywhere I've seen either really. It's most likely impossible but I too just wondered if someone had managed it.
  8. Forgive my absence, no excuses I just haven't been on for a while. Probably not encountered anything boat related for a while as we're currently in a marina while I finish at university I. have been occasionally active on the Facebook group Marina-itus has set in terribly so can't wait for the end of term to go anywhere. I think our plan is to head East to Nottingham to see friends and maybe onto Lincoln to see family Not much to report really. Marina life is boring but there is a nice community here and mainly hire boaters about. The main bad thing here is blooming gulls driving everyone demented before they even have babies. Amazingly little has broken or gone wrong in the last year *touches wood* except for a slight gas leak which was fixed swiftly. Hope you have all been well and not got into too much mischief in my absence
  9. Has any one had any success mooring on the Severn between Stourport and Worcester away from pubs or locks? Even if it requires a boarding plank. I want to go for a trip and stop on the river for a night in the middle of no where (well as best as you can in the area). One of my favourite nights since boating was mooring on the Soar and I'd love to spend a night by the river again
  10. I have a few dotted around the boat, they do a good job :-)
  11. A fan that doesn't run off my batteries would be good ;-)
  12. I think it was more likely the loch Ness monster than a salmon that size
  13. Dolphins have been seen in Worcester years ago
  14. Pretty certain I saw a seal jumping out the water between Lincomb and Holt lock on the river severn today. Some huge leapt out and then the splash as it landed back in was massive. It was about 10 boat lengths in front so I couldn't see what it was except it was pale grey and about the size if the body of a small cow. I know there was a seal that far up a few years ago. Has there been any sitings since?
  15. Its an air blower being used mixed with a strimmer cutting with the grass flying into the water. The CRT workmen have been cussing for the last two weeks. Its not the CRT themselves, they subcontract the grass cutting out to a company that just doesn't get that the grass should not go in the water. Often people don't engage their brains to consequences of their actions beyond what effects them directly. We had to pull over twice once at Stourport and a second time at Kidderminster the day it had been cut. If only I could have caught them in the act and mentioned why grass shouldn't go in. At Stourport an old time boater said "nah it wont be grass, grass doesn't get caught" but he took his words back as a good couple of hand fulls were pulled out
  16. I moored there for a few days, it was absolutely delightful except for the lack of sunlight for power
  17. There are quite a few issues happening aboard currently. Water in bilge, condensation, a leak (which had only come about subcellular refitting the kitchen last month, so I think it's something I gave caused) Rose has been a very damp boat for years as far as I can tell, cold too. This is because she had a very lovely but totally impractical stove which was only warm to the touch because it was a 1950-60 safety stove designed to heat radiators and water tanks. The only radiation heat the stove gave off was really only from the flue. Since installing a boatman stove she gas been exceptionally warm and humidity dropped significantly. The tongue and groove has been splitting apart because it hadn't been thus dry in years. What I may do, while I'm stuck in Stourport waiting for the river to go down is pip to see Ken at the lime kilns and ask for advice. I'm learning very quickly in the last year and half but I far from being experienced. Something clearly isn't quite right, a pennie and a different shouldn't breath enough to make the wall paper bubble up and the windows to steam up when the fire is off but all windows abs the stern door being open Thank you, experienced guys. I do hope to learn as much one day :-)
  18. Yep they're all open, took them off in the spring to give them a good clean and set them all to the same fairly open (but not letting rain in) height
  19. Really the Severn isn't closed? It's on red here at stourport and the locks at least to Worcester are closed last I heard at 3pm. Anyone else stuck moored in Stourport and want to meet for a drink?
  20. Need to stop breathing really that will solve it lol. I'm only eating cold food atm and shower is currently out of use as it's a storage room whilst I refit the kitchen. All windows are open, both front and back door, all vents are unobstructed. Breathing! That's the problem lol 12v fridge
  21. The current leak is very new. The water at the back has been there for some time as the wood frame holding the hot water tank is very water damaged I have an automatic bilge pump but oninthe engine bilge as far as I know. I haven't found another in the cabin bilge in my explorations. I think my plan is: empty water in there and keep watching it for a while. I'm also going to look under the boards under the bed at the head of the tank to ensure its not coming from there

    STINKS.

I am thinking it maybe coming frothed front rather than the back. My next experiment it to empty the fridge and turn it off just to confirm it is the fridge kicking off the stink

    STINKS.

This wacco just has a hole at the back but strangely the water isn't coming from there as I put a paper towel in the hole for a few days and it was bone dry. I'm sure I will work it out
  24. That is a plan Im soon to implement. My partner has gone back to his for a few days and hopefully trying to find in the pile full of "could be useful but don't need on boat" pile the two USB desk fans we have But I may just get a low wattage normal desk fan too if they're not powerful enough

    STINKS.

My current stink is, I think, from the fridge. I haven't quite learnt the balance of keeping power when moored for a few days without mooring on days without full sun. Some nights I think I don't have enough power.to keep the fridge (especially the freezer bit) ticking over and it leaks. That water pools somewhere (haven't located the exact point of stink and damp) and is producing a smell similar to a washing machine that has been left with water stagnating for some time with the door closed. Makes my loo smell delightful in comparison
