  1. Thanks. I reckon I'll be getting these then.
  2. Some stuff can be streamed without using your allowance. Spotify & Netflix spring to mind. I don't know if it's a network thing, or a website thing. I'm with 3. Unlimited data on my phone, 30GB hotspot, sim only, £24pm, includes 400 mins & 5000 texts.
  3. Do batteries have to be under the floor? I have room for 5 standard leisure batteries. 330 x 172 x 242 mm. The floor sits just above the isolator. The dimensions of the 670Ah 2V cells from the 2nd place mentioned are 198 x 83 x 695 mm. If I was to put them in the existing tray (in the space of the 3 batteries on the right) they would be sticking up 368 mm above the floor. Now seeing as there is nothing in the way, can I just cut a hole in the floor & then build a wooden box around it?
  4. I too disagree. Still needs water for drinking & cooking. Not sure if I even want to do my laundry or washing in dirty canal water (on going cost of filters?). No elsan point needed, now although I've never had a composting toilet, I'm pretty sure the contents don't magically disappear, so need a land based point to be able to dump the contents on to a compost heap. Grumpy old boaters snipping about solar panels? More like what they've chosen isn't going to work, especially with everything being electric. Add to that on their own website they don't seem to even have a proper grasp as to how it all works, can't even specify things correctly e.g. Produces 6KW of electric, surely they would produce 6kVh (or whatever the number) of electric. Reckons 1 hour of sun (6KW to cover the 5kW daily usage) is all that is needed to charge the batteries (assuming summer no clouds no shade) but we all know it takes longer than that to charge lead acid batteries, if it didn't we could all charge our batteries to full from our alternators because the amps & volts don't drop as they become more charged right?
  5. They say they have a 96kWh battery bank, assuming 12V = 8,000 Ah battery bank, or 24V 4000Ah. I was under the impression you should have at least 1W solar per Ah battery storage. Either way, even with all that solar, there's no way that battery bank is getting charged up in 1 hour. Electric cooker? I bet they kill those batteries dead quick.
  6. http://thamessolarelectric.co.uk/index.php?p=1_3 This is the page showing what they say theyve got
  7. Had to laugh at the video that showed how quiet the engine was, it sounded like a normal diesel engine to me. From their website
  8. Just to put some real numbers on this, I have 660W array (flat not tilted), & on 29th June this year, when it was only 11°C outside at 7.30am so I lit my fire, it was that dark & cloudy, my panels were only putting out a whopping 0.5A into flat batteries (12.0V) & sunrise was supposed to be 4.46 am. It was so dark I thought I'd woken up at 4.30am, but I hadnt. They say The <snip> solar panels <snip> produce 6KW of 100% renewable energy. But surely that should be they produce kWh
  9. Regarding the sound signals (page 53 of the handbook ). What it calls an extra long blast... that would be at least 5 seconds long. So a 'normal' blast would be less than that. Also pretty much anyone you meet wont know them. I was approaching a blind bend with a bridge, I gave 1 long blast (over 5 seconds) & then immediately my missus who was at the front told me there's a boat coming. I then heard 3 short blasts from said boat which I couldnt see, so I kept going. The idiot crashed into me hard, & then he want all apoplectic on me "didn't you hear me tooting my horn" (& lots of swearing & other stuff), but basically those 3 short blasts told me he was either going backwards or trying to stop, he then did the exact opposite of what he signalled.
  10. My water leak turned out to be an expansion tank which I didnt even know was there which had corroded through. Took 8 months to find, & was very intermittent. Sometimes the pump would go off, sometimes it wouldn't.
  11. After I got my boat my Mum decided she wanted 1. She's in her 70s. 1st boat she looked at, I told her to get hold of the hand rail before she tries to get on. My Mum doesn't listen to anyone, especially me. I even pointed out that the surveyor who was there doing other boats gets hold of the hand rail every time he gets on & off, & he's doing it all day. Anyway she dismissed me out of hand, didn't hold on, missed completely, smacked her jaw hard on the roof of the boat, & scraped all the skin off her shin where it got stuck between the boat & the pontoon.
  12. A 12v pc was mentioned. Have you seen the price of 12v PSUs.
  13. For the record, according to Bimble Solar, the Tracer BN is exactly the same as the Outback & made in the same factory. I have 2x 30A MPPT controllers, & 4x 165W panels. They have other sizes too. 2 panels in series into 1 controller, & the MT50 MPPT meter is handy too. Mine have been on 3 years now, never a hiccup, a case of fit & forget.
  14. I have a 58' boat & the stove is at the front. The bedroom is noticabley cooler, but I dont mind, I dont want the bedroom as warm as the living room. It simply isnt a problem. If i get another boat then I'd have the stove at the front again.
  15. OK so it's not a photo, but here's some time lapse video. 15 minutes compressed into 1 minute, showing some boaty action at Gayton Junction.
  16. you're getting peed off with it, or are you just taking no notice... Because after all autocorrect isnt a thing...
  17. Now now, that's a bit disrespectful of our ruling elite. Everybody knows they dont need to pay their taxes because they have an expensive lifestyle to maintain, & more importantly, how can they possibly expect to keep their money in the family if they have to pay taxes like us plebs...
  18. That greenworks chainsaw is excellent, & not scarily powerful like a petrol 1, but powerful enough. Uses an Oregon chain. The 45 mins runtime works out at about 2 hours work, & by the time you've then finished splitting that lot as well you'll probably want to call it quits for the day. Just 1 comment about the chain, it seems to be a weird sized 1 only available in asian (oriental) countries.
  19. I tried but she drove off too quick & I wasnt in a position to see it. I once had a similar thing happen on a motorbike in MK, guy pulled up to the junction from a side road, looked me right in the eye, then pulled out on me. I managed to get his reg as I was in a position to see it as he drove off. Plus there was a whole bunch of witnesses. Turns out he had pinched his mums car. He kept saying he was going to plead guilty but he kept pleading not guilty. Funny thing in court after denying it had even happened at all, his defence team then tried to make out he couldnt be done for it on the grounds that it hadnt happened there but instead half a mile up the road. This is despite the fact that police & ambulance were called to to where it had happened & thats where all the witnesses had stopped. He got 6 months in prison. --- Scariest 1 ever was when a van pulled out on me from a side road, I was on my motorbike, I caught up with him, I got 3 words into a rant at him, then wished I hadnt, his eyes scared the crap out of me, this guy was clearly a killer. Right at that moment loads of police turned up with machine guns, I was literally thrown out of the way as they grabbed him & carted him off. I never did find out what it was about
  20. All of you cyclist haters out there will be pleased to know I was knocked off of my pushbike yesterday. You'll be less pleased to know I suffered no injuries & only cosmetic damage to my bike. I was waiting in the middle of the right hand land (right turn only) at the red lights in the green bit that is for cyclists only. As the lights changed a car came up behind I turned right into the main road (1 lane each direction) parked cars both sides. I was cycling far enough out that if a parked car opened it's door I wouldnt get hit by it. This displeased the car behind me as he couldnt overtake because there were a few cars coming the opposite direction so he had to stay behind me. There's also a couple of islands that meant he still couldn't pass me once the opposite cars had gone by. He was getting peed off with me, beeping his horn & yelling at me to "get out the effing way". But he stayed far enough back. He was held up for about 15 seconds max & he was fuming. Then as I was approaching a side road a car pulled up to the junction to turn right into the main road which I was already on. She couldnt see me, I was fully behind the post to the right of the windscreen, she didnt even try to look around it. I immediately started taking avoiding action as I knew she hadnt seen me. She saw the car behind me & decided to floor it in order to beat the car that she should have waited for before pulling out. Me & the bike went sliding over the left hand corner of her bonnet & i ended up on the floor. She jammed her brakes on. The car behind me stopped level with me & shouted "serves you effing right you fat effing c**t", laughed & drove off. The woman got out of her car, looked at her bonnet & started screaming all sort of abuse about how I had damaged her car. She then got back in her car & drove off. So the only peeps who saw anything was me & the 2 car drivers. People did come out but no one else had actually seen it happen, & there was no CCTV. Rang the police, but they refused to attend on the grounds that I wasnt injured & my bike wasnt damaged, so I was probably lying, job done. Ironic thing is, both of those drivers would have been registered had insurance, trackable, just like what is being called for for cyclists. Apparently that will solve all the woes of the poor hard done by everybody else except cyclists, & we all know car drivers never do any wrong. --- Actually that puts me in mind of an incident that happened over 25 years ago. On a pushbike I was waiting at the lights to go straight on. A car pulled up & stopped level with me on my right hand side. The lights changed, I started going forward, the car on my right turned left knocking me off & she didnt even stop. She knew she had knocked me off my bike. I managed to chase her down because she got stuck in traffic. I called the police (yes I had a huge brick of a mobile phone way back then) but they were not interested on the grounds I wasnt dead, back then it didnt matter if you was injured or had your bike wrecked. Eventually they did show up because I wouldnt get out of the way & was holding up traffic. They forcibly removed me from the road & that was the end of that. Funny thing is, many years later a dead cyclist was found in town, he'd been knocked off in the middle of the night. He had lights high viz etc, the car didnt stop, but everything was on cctv. When they finally got the driver it was the same woman who had knocked me off all those years ago. I wonder how many people she has killed.
  21. Everyone saying how this insurance is less than £30 pa, I googled & money.co.UK had a list of top 10 cycle insurance. Randomly chose 1, selected the bottom level of cover available, & it came out at £36pm. The last motorbike I had was less than that fully comp.
  22. Yet any time insurance has become mandatory prices have gone through the roof. Just look at American health care
  23. They're already cheap enough & dont reflect the amount of work involved. I assumed I couldnt put it in the for slae cuz of this bit
  24. Ta, he already said no to my sig . But yes to the for sale section .
