  1. Good News - the work was finished this afternoon
  2. Its more of a general moan - and a hope that someone might have heard anything about the lock.............
  3. A lock out of order (surely not) - broken since 20th March but because of Covid no work has been done until Monday 6th July. Its not due to open until tomorrow 18:00 (9th July) - yet all the C&RT workers have disappeared. 3 were there first thing this morning and since 11am there isn't even a C&RT van here. Of course can't get any information out of C&RT. (Lock 52, Heathey Close Lock) ?
  4. Still in Cheshire - have you looked at Swanley Marina (Nantwich) - have wintered there for a few years - always helpful
  5. Update - still heard nothing from Castle marinas. Also emailed ABC on Friday (21st) & they haven't responded.
  6. I know that Frouds bridge marina has recently been sold, and a friend told me he saw a poster at Crick from Castle Marinas saying that they had acquired the marina. However Castle Marina's website doesn't mention anything about Frouds Bridge and my emails to them have gone unanswered. Frouds Bridge no longer have a website. Does anyone know whats going on?
  7. I doubt there is anything to stop you emailing the bid of 50%, but would it just get ignored?
  8. It is tresspass to enter someones boat without their permission, however, "A person is not guilty of trespass if he goes onto another's land to protect life or property during an emergency" http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/trespass Climbing onto someones boat to resuce it could be considered an emergency. No idea whose boat it was, but hope he/she was grateful, I know I would be.
  9. As I understood this nominating a phamacy thing - you could only nominate one phamacy, you couldn't keep changing phamacies??
  10. I'm currently on the Thames - doing the Brentford to Reading trip. Stopped Sunday & Monday nights at Windsor - you do have to pay to moor on the Eton bank. Mooring at windsor is £8 per night. Moored at Henley tonight - between 10am-3pm its free, then its £10 for over night - can either pay at parking machines or wait for the guy to come round and knock on. Check the dates for the Henley Regatta and any other events on the Thames, we got caught going through the Magna Carta Pagent around Runnymeade this weekend - great sights, but no where to moor.
  11. Not supported, but did see a "Floating Tattoo Parlour" boat at Cosgrove the other day
  12. Thanks Betty - we are at Fenny Stratford at present ........ will sort something
  13. Any fuel boats operating on the Grand Union, between Leighton Buzzard and Brentford?
  14. Any updates on Hillmorton?
  15. Think you missed my point. The porta potti and the loo are in the same bathroom. it would be impossible to sit on the fixed loo on this boat because it has a full size house washbasin so close to it.
  16. Saw its got a porta potti, is that 'cos you couldn't sit on the fixed loo because of the wash basin
  17. Whilst going along the Shroppie the other day we spotted a boat displaying a 2002 licence. C&RT are trying to enforce the display of registration number rule - ours had fallen out of one window and we hadn't noticed. However we received a letter from C&RT saying that although they knew we had a licence, they couldn't see the number. Would we like to buy new number plates?
  18. I've just checked my own boat insurance details, and it states that they cover our vessal for (among other things), acts of accidental damage, acts of vandalism and acts of deliberate dame (not caused by you). For those poor soles whose boats have been damaged, should (if they are insured) should be able to claim off their own insurance companies. Having worked in the insurance industry (albeit motor insurance), I would expect that the damaged boats insurance company will attempt to get reimburements from the drunkan lady and her insurance company (presuming she was insured, which given her attitude to the rules of the waterways, may well not be the case). As to her criminal liabilities, well - lets hope we hear molre of what happens to her.
  19. Not got blue or white smoke - just too much black; have tried removing air filter, changing air filter - but the fuel pump setting isn't something we've tried.........(yet)
  20. Ours smokes if its in the water and the engine is running
  21. other alternative is to sell the boat lol unless you've got a spare Kelvin (would settle for a Gardener) if anyone wants a 60ft Colecraft with a smoking BD3 - let me know lol
  22. Yes have tried running without the air filter.........sadly not helped. mmmmmmmmmm............now theres a thought........had wondered about having the exhaust redirected out the side, rather than getting smoked from the exhaust coming out the roof.
  23. We tend to get our Red from a local garage forecourt (via drums), or from Marinas. Only in dire emergency do we get fuel from a fuel boat. We would like to support them, but with the contant motion of the boat, the sediment in the fuel doesn't get a chance to settle. When we do use a fuel boat - we again use drums, so that we can let the fuel settle. We have tried using white deisel (nice handly tesco station at Reading), but didn't notice much on an improvement.
  24. We got Beta Marine "opened it up", it ticks over 400 revs, and will run to 2200 revs now. I'm begning to suspect that this is a Beta BD3 problem......... The Beta BD3 is based on the ford tractor engine. Does sound like drastic action, as would need to take the engine out to get to the pistons.
  25. Our engine smokes. It smokes a little when idel, smokes alot when going at tick over, & just over. If you reve the engine right up (eg on rivers), get thick black smoke, and after a good long blast, the smoking reduces for a short while. Its been serviced regulalry, all filters done.....its got the right oils Tried fuel additives. Moved pipe that goes from the rocker cover to the air intake and fitted a oil catcher tank. Have had the injectors out, had them cleaned and serviced (which improved the smoking for a month) We do alot of cruising (only in a marina for 3 months over winter), and rest of the time we are cruising. The smoking has been going on for years.....just feel like we have tried all we can think of........so please
