We asked Alex to machine out the centre and he did a cracking job...can't wait till he has moved his traction engine restoration business to our other unit so we can machine everything up ourselves for boat and traction engines

    New raking stern post

From the album: FMC Gorse 2

We also made a new raking stern post for Gorse. I fortunately managed to have a good look over a Fish Class motor boat and could see the differences in stern post from an early motor boat and a later one...so we had to change it!!

At last a lovely day so we all headed out and spent the time countersinking the hull and cabin of our prototype ready for riveting.

    rudder design...

From the album: FMC Gorse 2

I also cut out a rudder for Gorse. It's a bit of guess work as I only have a few blurred pictures to go by. Rudder on the right a copy for the Lion based boat...the one on the right for Gorse...any comments gratefully received as I want to get it right. We have also started work on making a new stern post as I realized that ours was not correct for Gorse

We constructed a scaffold frame with a tarp so we can keep the weather out as the front section is now fully welded and I don't want a swimming pool feature. The tarpaulin covers the section of boat that will be returned to working trim...wooden side decks, cants, cloths etc. The other section will have a riveted cabin

Once the counter plate has been wrapped around the stern angle this deck can be dropped in place and welded up. The 6 inch plates will be riveted on and the dollies drilled, tapped and bolted through both plates

Just waiting for the rolled angles to arrive so we can start the swim...thought I would crack on with the deck in the meantime

  18. Dear All I have been chasing up a match for Kelvin Green. The Stationary Engine Company have discovered the following we have been in touch with British Polar Engines which is what remains of the Kelvin business and have discovered what the original shade of green paint was that was used on the Kelvin engines. It is a colour in its own right, a special mix if you like so does not equate to any British standard or RAL colour but we now know exactly what it they are now supplying it...link to Kelvin Green Hope this helps anyone in search of Kelvin Green x

A big thank you to Fred, the current owner of the stern end of Gorse for letting me crawl all over her while I take pictures and measurements. Hopefully I will be able to now get the back end right. The counter is about 120 mm deeper but still has a draft of 34-36 inches
