Britains first iron hulled and armoured warship. Warrior was the largest, fastest and most powerful ship in the world when she was launched in 1860. Obsolete after just ten years, warrior went on to serve a role with the coastguard and reserves, a floating school for the Navy and ultimately put up for sale as scrap in 1924. No buyer was found so Warrior was used as a floating oil pontoon before being restored to her former glory in the 1980's. What a ship..its like stepping back 150 years in time...a must see!!!
We asked Alex to machine out the centre and he did a cracking job...can't wait till he has moved his traction engine restoration business to our other unit so we can machine everything up ourselves for boat and traction engines
We also made a new raking stern post for Gorse. I fortunately managed to have a good look over a Fish Class motor boat and could see the differences in stern post from an early motor boat and a later one...so we had to change it!!
I also cut out a rudder for Gorse. It's a bit of guess work as I only have a few blurred pictures to go by. Rudder on the right a copy for the Lion based boat...the one on the right for Gorse...any comments gratefully received as I want to get it right. We have also started work on making a new stern post as I realized that ours was not correct for Gorse
