That’s hardly representative since a journey from Euston to New Street (which I’m sure is what it should say rather than Birmingham International) isn’t particularly relevant to HS2. A far better representation of conventional versus high speed would be a centre to centre journey such as Nelson’s Column to the Floozie in the Jacuzzi.

You can go from Euston to New St in 72 minutes non-stop on the current infrastructure with the current trains but there isn’t capacity to do that three times an hour plus serve the intermediate stations and all the other destinations the WCML serves.

I think whoever posted that originally may have been relating to visits to the  NEC or Airport (why else would a 'suvvernor' want to go to Brum! 😁ONLY KIDDING, I love Brummies as find them amongst the friendliest of folk in the UK!

I have made a change which may have fixed this issue but will need to wait for next notification emails. Please let me know.

It is hard to troubleshoot as I still can't reproduce the issue though aware it exists for some users.

Hi Rich - just received a new email notification (CBE CB-522 Battery Charger For Sale) and still the same. Sorry ....

Well currently there isn't even an underground station at Old Oak Common, the nearest being either North Acton, East Acton or Willesden Junction, so compared to other north or westbound Overland Stations in London (Paddington,Euston,Kings Cross and St Pancras) it's accessibility is poor. The other stations mentioned have at least 4 underground lines available.

apologies if this has already been quoted but only just become aware of this thread. From a reliable source a few months ago:

EXISTING Network: 1hr 30 min Euston to Brum Intl Rail Station (with option to alight/join at many stations but slightly slower NOT an option with HS2)

HS2 Total HS2 time 1hr 31 min PLUS a walk at Old Oak Common!

Euston to Old Oak Common 28 mins (quickest)

    Walk

Old Oak Common to new Curzon St Station/hub approx 48 mins

THEN 15 min walk to Brum Intl Rail Station

    From HS2 site:

The first HS2 services will run between Birmingham Curzon Street and Old Oak Common in London between 2029 and 2033 and expand as new sections of the network are built.

Please can you re-test this and let me know if the error remains?

Still the same. There is no option to overide it as there occasionally is with other sites. When I click on 'Advanced' I get the following info:

url7653.canalworld.net normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Chrome tried to connect to url7653.canalworld.net this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be url7653.canalworld.net or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit url7653.canalworld.net right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

I seem to be getting this due to a change in Chrome? I have a link to the .gov.uk river levels site and I persistently got this error, so have had to create a new link to the site and now its repeatedly OK

I've been using this saved link for years which still works.

It's only from links in the notificaiton emails that it doesn't like.

The white elephant continues its monstrous construction to save 2 minutes on a journey from stations not in the centre of either city at each end.

Here is the palaver in the Colne Valley over the last few days.

The pier is approx 50 metres from where my mooring was in the marina!

  6. Not disimilar to my setup. There is one header thank for the engine (3LW) and heating/hot water circuit with pipes running from  both systems to the tank. There is a gate valve (installed by Charles Mills) on the pipe to the engine thermostat. This allows to the engine to warm up quicker (theoretically) and as stated above helps prvent heat loss from the calorifier back to the engine. LW's do not need pre-heating, that's why they have the cold start button on the injector pump. HTH.

I struggled to find the bleed screw on our boat. It was in a cupboard, in a small gap next to the inverter, behind wooden panelling and covered in spray foam. I was quite pleased when I found it!

My skin tank is on the baseplate (Norton Canes shell). The bleed pipe is inaccessible due to being beneath the forward corner of the engine. I just undid the main flow pipe connection and drained down into the bilge beneath the engine (it flowed to the rear baffle plate due to the angle of the boat). Once the engine drained down (IIRC approx. 12-15 litres), I sucked it up with a drill pump then sucked the coolant from the skin tank via the baseplate connection which was around 50 litres! Refilled the skin tank till it overflowed, reconnected then filled from the header tank with the thermostat sensor removed from the plug.

  8. The Gardner engine rally is at the Samuel Barlow, Alvecote Marina on 5th & 6th of August.

It's quite an old boat, perhaps some intervention is needed to rein-viagra‐orte it.

rein-viagra‐orte-ation isn't always an option. According to a friend! 😟

Just had a look at Hattie on the Rugby Boats website.

That rear fender is a crime.

The rear fender is a quick fix. However, the amount of condesation damage to the cabinetry/woodwork due to lack of ventilation, especially to Ron Hough's amazing work (scumbling is peeling off in the boatmans cabin) is awful. If any water has got into joints/bottom of panelling, it's only a matter of time before it breaks through. In mine and previous owners custody, the quality was virtually unmatched. Even the curtains have been removed and disposed of due to mould, they cost me a pretty penny in 2018.

  10. I used to own Hattie, sold her in 2018 via Rugby Boats.

Current owners have let her down though as the interior is not what it was. Beautful joinery (African Walnut, crown cut oak and ash ceiling) need looking after with good polish. The amazing Ron Hough artwork, especially in the boatmans cabin is peeling, no doubt due to being laid up, unventilated and damp .... sacrilege.

If you need any detailed info let me know. I've got the whole history!

All the best with your search.

  11. just to expand on this. The anti freeze to use is Ethylene Glycol, referred to as 'IAT'. The longer lasting 'OAT' anti freeze which is usually a reddish colour provides protection for upto 5 yrs as opposed to 2yrs for the IAT (Blue). However, I've been informed in the past that OAT will not protect the brass/bronze components within the engine & will also react adversely with any IAT (Blue) anti freeze still in the system, as mentioned above cab turn to a jelly like substance. I use Morris MEG mono-ethylene glycol at a 50/50 mix for my 2LW.

Just spoken to Charles, he knows the engine.

He said the stretched spring is to get a lower tick over and is not the issue.

He is coming to service it next week.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

    Excellent! Enjoy NB Jack!

Ah yes - this is a Braidbar boat and the engine has Charles number on it, It did not occur to me that he would still be reachable on that number. Time for a phone call.

He'll have loads of info on the engine for you as he rebuilt it 🙂
