  1. Apparently you can only get the winter fuel payment now if you claim extra benefits like pension credit ect on top of your ordinary OAP. But if you claim extra benefits to get the WFP and you have more than £11,000 in savings beware, Starver and Co have threatened to snoop on claimers bank accounts and tax interest on your savings, from this month.
  2. Rig a tarpaulin over the roof to see if it stops it.
  3. For hot water it will probably have an instant gas water heater. Although the engine can produce hot water with a lot of faff by removing the exhaust pipe lagging and coiling annealed copper tube around and around it then replacing the lagging and connecting the ends to the hot water circuit with calorifier included. It probably won't have rev counter or hour counter. It does have the Lister LH150 hydraulic gearbox though which is good. Make sure it has the extra large camshft pulley that drives the alternator, at least 10'' dia.
  4. For example. Making a large hole in the roof for a stove flue pipe. Scribe a circle with either a drawing compass or draw around a suitably sized saucer, dinner plate or whatever. Then around that circle drill loads of small holes close together, then join two or three together enough for a jigsaw blade then buzz all around until the centre falls through.
  5. Anyway. Before loading coal on especially for overnight make sure the grate is clear, give it a good raking with the poker, ''If the grate is bunged up with ash it will go out', then load your coal on, make sure its beginning to glow red before shutting down for the night. Exel burns well on the Boatman.
  6. If I want to delete a post I've written before I post it, I just press F5
  7. And make sure the rubber grommets are in place where the leak off pipes go through the slot between heads and valve covers.
  8. Lift pump is easy to remove and replace. Two nuts, it has a piston lever not a hooked lever so even easier. Just pull it out and push it in.
  9. The blue cable from the immersion heater switch that disappears through that round porthole thing looks a botch and is suspect, where does it go to and to which side of the switch is it wired, live side or switched off side ?
  10. Don't neglect the batteries. It would help if you bought a stand alone battery charger for now. about a 20 amp one and plug it into that mains lead with sockets.
  11. The landlord once told us that you drank in there regularly and not certain of this but you drove an old Austin Healey 3000.
  12. No Rod. The Hop Pole pub near Bishops Stortford, near Stansted airport.
  13. Incidentally Rod. Do you know the Hop pole pub ?
  14. I doubt if soft solder would hold for long, if the back boiler gets short of water again and overheats it will melt and blow out again. It will need to be brazed or sliver soldered.

  16. Just sew a large squab cushion to the seat of your pants, to sit on any seat or plank. You won't lose it.

  18. My old post from years ago. Fix lots of small panels to Sunflower stems, they will always face the sun. KIS.

  20. The days of steel wheels and wheel trims, tying them on with cable ties. My customers always asked me to replace the ties when removing wheels during a service. Alloy wheels are a real pain and are usually no lighter than steel wheels. No one nicked steel wheels for the wheels, maybe for the tyres though. She meant wheel trims on steel wheels.
  21. Might even fit old Rattletrap.
  22. I wouldn't be surprised if the heat from the silencer melted the inner nylon sheath of that cable stiffening it too much which caused strain that snapped the cable. The blue plate to which the cable is clamped to might be moved to the left a little away from the silencer, but I can't see in your photo how it's attached. The silencer coould be turned a quarter turn to move it out of the way but looks too rusted to attempt it.
  23. The operating cable at 1o'clock on your yellow circle looks like it's very close or touching the exhaust silencer which light have melted the inner plastic sheath of the cable. Also check the outer cable clamp also at that location, two screws are tight. The same at the control lever at the helm.
  24. Plenty of elephants on the TV channel ''Wild Earth''. About all the game reserves in South Africa, on 24 hours.
  25. Barclays bank used to do marine mortgages, whether they still do I don't know.
