  1. Hello Bizzard'

You be careful dear ar you'll catch your death.

    love auntie Eth.

    Hello auntie Eth,

    I'll be careful then.

Its quite on this forum topic today auntie Eth.All the exspurts are droning on about inverters again.

    love bizzard.

  2. If you run out and need to make tea, just put a finger over the spout of your kettle,a gas one,Hold it a couple of inches below the surface of the 'canal-river' take finger off spout and fill, this ensures no surface muck goes in. Make tea. bizzard.

  3. Fit one, apart from trapping dust, the engine will run quieter too as diesel air induction is noisy, more so than petrol engines. They are even sometimes termed as air silencers.Although mine and many others ST,SR's and so on often don't,just an alloy mushroom type vent, although a filter type is available for them. bizzard.

  4. Hello Bizzard,

Guess what happend today. Your uncle Cyril's buttons broke off his trousers, the ones that hold his braces up,and they fell down running for a bus.I've just put the kettle on.

    love untie Eth.

    Hello auntie Eth,

    Int that funny.

I got into bed last night with cold feet and they never got warm all night long.

    love Bizzard.

  5. Get yourself a stone hot water bottle, Fill with boiling water and pop in the bed at about 8pm and when

you retire at around 10.30pm, The bed is heated right through.

    Firesprite

I believe that years ago they put hot Bran in stone hot water bottles too.

We had stone ones as kids, and if they fell out of the bed at night, woke the whole house. bizzard

Are hot water bottles enough? Dr Wiggins refers to me as the cold equivalent of a black hole - I make the bed colder by getting in, can never warm up. I like the idea of a brick or stone, as I find water gets cold by morning & makes things worse - those wheat thingies at least stay neutral. Am somewhat addicted to my electric blanket, and have been known to use it during summer here in Melbourne...

Getting into bed with cold feet's the worst, they never warm up. bizzard

  8. Hello Bizzard.

Not again! Ok. Well i'd washed your uncle Cyrils shirt and was putting it through the mangle, when rat-tat-tat-tat--tat-tat and all these bits shot out.I thought the war had begun again.Course i didn't know he'd put his false teeth in the top pocket did i.,.there.

  9. Apart from one or two rare exceptions the armature splines are spiral too so an incorrect drive won't fit, only if the armature is swapped too then you have an opposite rotation starter. I am sure it's possible if you go on an incorrect yoke number but clearly visible on the parts.

Yes true of the inertia type,i think they were mainly fitted to SR3 and ST3. It was the pre-engage type i had two issues with.

  10. Hello auntie Eth.

Tell me the one about the mangle again.

    love Bissard.

  11. All in the part number.

Oh wow! That's a really heavy statement isn't it? Who do you think these people are, orang utans with a halfords socket set? After 35 years as an auto electrician I feel pretty qualified to say that I cannot imagine a reconditioner being unaware of such basic facts as that some starters are anti clock.

Its very easy to do,however clever the reconditioner is, as the pinion clutch unit looks the same and if the reconditioners is rushed easy to overlook. The inertia type's spiral should be noticed on those though.

Twice in the last 8 years i've been out to boats with SR's that the owner has had the starter recond and won't work afterwards for that reason. bizzard

  12. Hello,auntie Eth,

I had to get up at 5.37 this morning to let Satchidanander my cat out to do his buisiness.

Love Bizzard.ps I made tea as well.

    Hello Bizzard,

I have to let your uncle Cyril out, two or three times in the night too. I make tea as well.

    Your loving aunt Eth.

  13. Thanks Bizzard,

If looking straight on at the pinion end , the bush end furthest away, there is an arrow showing an anti clock wise direction. I assume this mean its an 'anti clock wise' motor ?

I have just got a price from SAC for £85 + Vat ( thanks Richard) so i'll double check with them etc .

    Thanks again.

    Gj

Yes but impress on them that its a Lister thats crankshaft rotates the opposite to normal. bizzard

  14. Thanks guy's

    Some usefull stuff !

    Gj

Be careful with this one,if getting another one or getting yours recond,as most SR's crankshaft's rotate in the opposite direction to most other engines so make sure they put the correct direction pinion and clutch on it,it will just slip and not work at all if the wrong ones fitted.Yours should be a pre-engage starter but might be bendix inertia type and bendix pinion can also be wrong direction too,so make sure.most reconditioners are totally unaware of this.

  15. Thanks for your help - we're now waiting for RCR.

The symptoms are as Circe says,

Tickover is now much lower, stalling whenever the throttle is reduced

Engine speed increases until the throttle is opened half way, top half has no effect

Knock it out of gear and it revs fine all the way to full throttle (apologies to the chap I woke up...)

I've checked the prop and removed a short length of rope, with no effect. That was done first.

There is no visible dipstick on the gearbox (I never was good at hide & seek) but the engine oil level is fine.

This is why we paid for RCR. The kettle's on and the biscuit tin is open. It's a nice day and we've stopped in a pretty spot: there's even some BW men mending a lock, so we have some entertainment.

Circe or I'll let you know how the story finishes.

Its lashing down with rain here in B.Stortford. If its a PRM or Hurth gearbox the dipstick is probably attached to the filler plug on top, you'd need a spanner 19mm or thereabouts.Enjoy your tea. bizzard
