  1. Thanks for the advice. I apologise, I did not realise that this topic had been done to death. I have arranged third party insurance with Basic Boat Insurance. Easy Peasy
  2. I have just bought a converted ice breaker called Erebus. She has an iron and steel hull which is thought to have been built around 1900. The engine is an Ailsa Craig RF1 (1944). The cabins were replaced in 1995. She is going to be renovated over the Winter and I am looking to insure her. Can anyone recommend an insurance company who will take on an old boat?
  3. Hi everyone. I am a new to owning a boat although I have been a fan of historic narrowboats for a few years. Finally got my feet wet (pun) and bought an ex ice breaker (hence my name) in need of restoration. She will shortly be heading to a hardstanding near the River Witham. I plan to have her ready for the South Kyme gathering in 2012. Love to hear from anyone on the Witham. She has an Ailsa Craig Ricardo RP1 1944 vintage engine. If anyone has any info on these, eg manual I would be grateful.
  4. Hi Bazza Yet to be confirmed, but i've got a mooring at Belle Isle Marina, Dogdyke. I live at Walcott, so we are nearly neighbours.
  5. For better or worse I have bought Erebus. I fell in love with the quirky little boat in its shabby state and took the plunge (hopefully no pun intended). She has been surveyed and will shortly be winging her way to a hardstanding next to the River Witham for some long needed TLC. I am new to boating and some of you will be questioning my sanity after your comments on her stabilty. Oh Well. I look forward to hearing from anyone boating on the Witham and would like to meet up anytime for a beer and a chat.
