I see your boat has starred in an episode of "Allo!, Allo!", too. Listen, and I shall say theez only once Rene That aint me at the tiller
  6. I recently got hold of a copy of Waterways World from 1983 with a picture of my boat Erebus on the front. Anybody else got a pic of their boat on the front cover of a magazine ? Lets see it.

    Kyme Eau

We can have a pint anyway. I live at Walcott, so I'll be coming to the festival even if the boat does'nt. Thanks for the info and here are a couple of photos of Erebus as she sits at the moment.

    Kyme Eau

Hope to see you there then. The boat is still a long way off though. I have not seen it in the water yet or had the Ailsa Craig running. Almost got the outside painted, although there is lots to do inside. At least I've got Kyme as an incentive.
  12. My link Midland Chandlers do a 4 3/4" ID chimney.
  13. I'm hoping to have my first narrow boat renovated and ready for the South Kyme gathering in Spring. For how much of the year is the Kyme Eau navigable? I've read differing views concerning weed and water levels. My boat is only 30 feet long so winding aint a problem. She is 2 feet 9 inches deep however.
  14. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  15. Your boat will be fine. Contact with tupperware, however, may prove disasterous.
  16. Yeah I read your thread whilst buying her. Hopefully she'll be back in the water in April. I'll post more pictures over the coming months. Thanks for your interest
  17. This is Erebus during her restoration. Still early days though !
  18. Hi Does anyone know where I can get hold of a new oven box for my Premier range. Midland Chandlers sell new ranges and a few spares but not the oven box. Thanks

    Ailsa Craig RF1

I don't think you would envy me today. I've just cleared the hull of its oily detritus. I am thinking of writing " Zen and the art of narrowboat restoration ". I understand that the incorrect flywheel allows the use of a starter motor. Thanks for your comments. I appreciate them.

    Ailsa Craig RF1

Hi I am restoring a former ice boat. It has a 1944 Ailsa Craig Ricardo RF1. I'm trying to find out how common this engine is. Anyone out there got one ?
  21. Hi My boat is on a hard standing, until next Spring, while I restore her. If I black the hull now will it degrade in the open air/sunlight.
  22. I was told by a surveyor that too much ballast can cause a pendulum effect if the boat rocks. I'm as confused as you
  23. I do not want to make it deeper. I would like it to be shallower but am concerned about increasing the instability. As I mentioned in the post, I understand that they are designed to rock.
  24. I am new to boating and have a query about the stability of my boat. I am currently renovating the former ice boat EREBUS (29', 5'8", 2'9"). Although I have never seen her in the water, from the photo of her in the past, she seems to sit very low. I have found some, extremely heavy, iron weights in the hull for ballast. There is also an Ailsa Craig RF1 amidships. I realise that, by design, she will rock due to the narrow profile and rounded hull shape. Does it need to sit so low to be stable? Can you over ballast a boat causing a pendulum effect? Any comments will be welcome. Thanks
