So, assuming five shifts a week, well over £200 before tax in a typical week in 1990. Not sure what that would amount to now, maybe £450 a week, so handsome wages indeed (and richly deserved, don't get me wrong).
believe it or not the inland revenue reckons that 517 pound is the average national weekly wage.

Before certain people shout this is post bloody sunday and the introduction of the yellow card
I remember our training for Northern Island the army had two urban close quarter combat ranges one at Hyde and one in germany.
built to cover all aspects of urban layouts i.e terraced houses/shops/garage/bus stops etc, you entered as a patrol of 4 each one had a great big number on you back so on video playback you could see who messed up,while going around, various scenarios played out. Target pop up and out of doorways etc. What brought home to you especially on the first couple of goes. is that pressure to identive and fire at gunman in the first couple of sec it is not easy. the most shot target was a woman pushing a pram which drove out at a fast rate. And because of this most soilder in a fire fight in NI fired the first round high just in case.
So I have the utmost respect for firearms offices because there training is to a much higher degree and more expected of them.
So I hope if its proven that the officer followed all procedure to the letter that he sues for wrongful arrest.
Just thought I would point out that while patrolling our rifles did not have a round in the breech so we had to cock first before firing.

If the policeman shot him within the rules of engagement, then that's the cause and effect of carrying a firearm while engaging in criminal activity.
If the highly trained firearms policeman disregard the rules of engagement he should be prosecuted.

At the heart its all about profit, miners and other workers have fought for the right to have day off the right for holidays the right for sickness and accident pay the right to a safe working environment. .
Since thatcher there can now exploit workers and children in the 3 world, import there products here and put ours out of work , here is a thought where is the country going to get its wealth as more and more industry goes overseas .

Don't forget that the plate thickness will be subject to a plus for minus specification variation from the nominal, say 8mm thickness, so could in fact still be the original thickness, with no loss.
still not bad for 20 years and shows if you look after a boat it will last decades

the HOL can only serve a useful purpose if the members:-
- are not affiliated in any way to any political party
- do not have hereditary rights
- are selected by a high committee solely on the basis of their professional expertise or their moral ethics (i.e. not necessarily peers) and then stand for election and re-election by the common man on a regular basis.
- are limited to a more manageable number.
the intent would be that they would be the exemplars of common sense and ethical behaviour.
and of course you believe in the tooth fairy

Mine is 8 5 4 4
on the last survey this summer he found 8 was down to 7.6 at the worst, the 5 was down to 4.7 at worse and this is a 20 year old boat, I believe it has nothing to do with thickness but more to do with looking after hull

IMHO the big advantage of an unelected upper chamber with limited powers is that it is unelected and they can do what they feel is right. How many times has the House of Lords done what is right rather than what is politically expedient? Even if they only send a bill back to be reconsidered they are providing a service we can all benefit from.
I think the majority of the hostility towards it stems from a combination of jealousy and a misunderstanding of their limited power rather than a real understanding of their worth.
No when ever the lord's send a bill back it is because of political bias first and what is morally right is usually is incidental ,at the moment labour has the majority in the lords (which is a good thing with this rightwing government )
-
That's the BBC's job.
I know it always raised a smile how one week it is accused of political bias the next the month is an election the government changes then next moth the party that supported it becomes the government that then accuse it of political bias
-
Funny old world every government since 1911 has been at odds with the house of lords and every oppression has supported them
Just like the BBC

My last boat monty was a pump out and I only used yeast and believe it or not after 3 months there was never an odor .
What I used to do was after pump out was I mixed one teaspoon bakers yeast and two teaspoons sugar and flushed it down to the tank

since 1911 the house of lords has been pointless
But before bliar the noble lords has always operated on a gentlemen's agreement that there would never impede the commons as it had been accepted by them that the commons is supreme and it was a good tourist attraction bring in money.
after blair these unelected political appointees want power I believe its time to sack the lot and same tax payers some money.
But the very fact that they were able to derail Cameron and Osborne's spiteful tax credits thingy prompting a hissy fit means that the house of lords does serve a purpose - and a very important one.
I grant you there are some who see it and use it as a gravy train or a sop to grandiose self image and something could be done about that. But I think we do need a second house. Perhaps not quite in it's present form though
just look at the americans who have a seconded house nothing gets done other than waste even more money

I guess we want to ensure it doesn't get any worse. We can hide it by filling it with wax.

After both led with more than 40% of the vote in the first round on 6 December, the Socialist candidates in those regions pulled out so their voters could support Republican candidates in the second round.

IF it was parties of similar political leaning i.e conservative and ukip well I can see the point.
But the danger I see in this, is we encourage those parties engaged in armed struggle like IRA ,ETA .
To change there ways giving up arms for the ballot box.
But if main establishment of political parties start rigging the vote. where would that leave us
also it saying to the votes sorry we do not trust you.
We all know in the past british election voters have vote for one party to keep someone out, to me that ok cause that voters choice.
I would like to know others views

He can, as you point out, say what he likes, and we can consider him to be a inflammatory imbecile as a result of what he says.
Tell me more about this establishment btw.
as much as we detest him he's not upsetting his voters The main problem is he could win, then the real problems will start.
And the petition is improving his standing in the USA bible belt
