  1. We've installed a CO alarm, suitable for boats, on our narrowboat in our sleeping quarters at bunk height. We're not due a BSS examination for a while yet so we're wondering if we've got the right location. Should we speak to a surveyor or can somebody on here kindly advise us what the BSS regs will require with regard to siting onboard, or where we can find the info. Thanks
  2. We started boating in 1972 and think this post is spot on. Thanks.
  3. We don't know what the catch is but we've been using the free photos app for a year now and found them very good.

  5. We enjoyed this, and it reminded us of our visit last summer.

  7. We've had two MCC boats, the first was six years old, our second was a newbuild. We're not experts but both boats are fine and the local BSS surveyor concurred.
  8. So, we are real ale drinkers but not Camra members, and note that "they have narrowly rejected plans to widen the organisation's remit to be the voice of all beer, cider and perry drinkers" at their AGM today. We're quite pleased to hear this news, and are thinking of joining the Campaign.
  9. Thank you Bruce for asking this question which we've wondered about for 30+ years. We've been unable to find the answer altho' we didn't ask the Forum. Canalplan states that its also known as Cavan's bridge.

  11. WW tweeted today "£20,000 donations to Middlewich breach so far -<1% of expected bill of £2m+ - while canal expected to be closed until Christmas:"
  12. We have a similar set-up with a Three (Huawei D-30A) Mi-Fi which seems ok for movies.
  13. Many apologies all, brainstorm, it was at the Glasgow end.
  14. Very interesting OK indeed. We now have our own boat but when we were renting we had a brilliant week betwixt Glasgow and Edinburgh and twice over the Falkirk Wheel which was a treat. However, Scottish Canals head office must be the most swish building in Edinburgh after their Parliament, with lots and lots of people sitting at desks. (Allegedly).
  15. Altho' not strictly relevant to this thread, and bearing in mind the "London gets tough" thread from 05 February, I've just seen two craft under construction on the K&A just north of Sydney Gardens on the outskirts of Bath. They seem to consist of about a dozen large empty barrels lashed together, about 10 feet wide, and topped with a wooden platform and a shed, and the more substantial of them seemed to have folk inside. I was wondering if C&RT will take an interest in these craft and whether there are other issues. I am going to get in touch with C&RT next Tuesday to ask their advice.
  16. From today's Times in their register section there is a a headline "The day two narrowboats became one" about a couple met on the cut and married at All Saints Church in Alrewas on 27 February 2018. We enjoyed the story, and wish them all the best. The accompanying photo showed the couple passing under an arch of boathooks and bargepoles on leaving the church.

  19. We stayed there for 2 weeks in September. As well as the 07711 number, we also have 07956 140642 on our mobile phone directory for the marina.
  20. Passed through this lock a couple of weeks ago and the leak was very obvious but there wasn't a "C&RT AWARE" sign that we noticed. I wonder if they've forgotten.
  21. From C&RT - due to a balance beam failure at Bagnall Lock at Alrewas on the Trent & Mersey, they will be manning the lock between 0900 to 1200 for the next few days. Outside of these hours transit will not be possible for safety reasons. As we're presently heading that way we would be very grateful for any updates from Forum members in the vicinity. Thanks. C&RT didn't mention any repair or permanent fix and hopefully it won't seriously impact on our travels, and there's plenty to do in Alrewas.
  22. Our 58' NB method is this, secured by rope, and only deployed (if required) when mooring.
  23. Hi Saskia, AFAIK you can't get a train from Bugsworth. Nearest station is Whaley Bridge, and weather permitting it's a lovely walk over Wild Moor to Buxton, then a bus or train back to Whaley. Also, from Congleton walk along the old railway line to Biddulph Grange, NT, just one (busy) road to cross.
  24. Back on Chrome. Thanks all.
