  1. Don't throw any into your stove to test it
  2. Also maybe check that the head hasn't warped
  3. Go for what suits you, just find out the size of the locks in your area, good luck, hope you find one.
  4. You know it's blimming scary how many boat builders have gone to the wall since I was last living on a boat, and reading all the blogs the canal system doesn't seem to be getting much better either, worrying
  5. Thank you both,it's gotta be better than last time.
  6. Best extinguisher is a good quality fire blanket, not one of the little lightweight cheepies ,a good heavy duty one,it will smother the flames and covers most of the classifications ,I know that you must still have the extinguishers to the correct rating, but the blanket is easier to use,oh yes and whilst on the subject fit good quality smoke and a carbon monoxide alarm.
  7. Hi I used to have a time share canal time boat,by the time you have loaded up the boat, had your DVD training video, and tuition not forgetting the little swing bridge you might find it better to moor up at the bottom of the locks on your first day, have a nice meal in one of the pubs, take a stroll up the locks to see what's I store for you, I also agree that is the best route to take, and there used to be a lovely pub at the end of the Welford Arm,I think that's what is was called, bit of a tight turnaround, there was also a nice pub with bar skittles on one of the locks, but can't remember the name ,in the tunnels remember to look up into the air shafts, and last have a great time,oh yes slow down near all boats and wave to the owners,we don't bite, well most of us don't, ; )
  8. Hi Kiki,I hope you gave him both barrels ,some people are just low life's who don't know when they are being helped. P.s I'm a serving Firefighter but did start as a Fireman a long time ago : )
  9. Hi all we are back, the hunt for our new home is on,this time looking at a used boat, not gonna get fingers burnt a second time, anyway really enjoying looking around marinas again, both Paula and I really excited about this. Will keep you updated.: )
  10. Hi Not been on here for a few years but now recovered from my past experience of buying a boat, and now looking at moving back to the water,so hello to everyone and are there any Heron survivor club members left out there?
  11. this is a long well over due update, well I was finally beaten and had to sell the boat as an unfinished project, broke our hearts to see her go.would we do it again?dunno, may not buy a new build but would consider pre owned, will never trust boat builders again sorry to tar all with the same brush but once bitten and all that, good points made loads of very good friends, learnt loads of new skills, joined a great club the heron survivors club, and enjoyed the great life living on the water, dont miss pump outs though.to those of you living the life on the cut, I envy you, to those thinking of moving onto a boat, go for it its a great life with great people. So a big thankyou to all the people that helped me and Paula get the boat up to a livable standard and all thats left is to say Bye Roy n Paula
  12. Hi all, electrics are all in no more going around with a torch, unfortuniatly I`ve had to stop work on her cos I`ve gone and slipped a disc in me back,so spending half my time on the floor looking up at the roof, must get that varnished, any way when I`m up again will try and post some more pictures.RoynPaula.
