  1. I think, sack the management,if it creates that much income, but the only way of making it profitable is to get people to work for free,is rediculous, get new management with new ideas...bring the canals forward not back, i find it unbelievably mismanaged, no common sense prevails..

    regrets

As I expected no easy answer to the dilemma,if I can afford the mooring will get the two, moor the wide beam down south and travel the north in the narrow and swap over if alls well, like the idea of one post, of selling and buying and selling and buying, but if want a good spec boat, might keep losing money that way, but an interesting idea, should have a boat swap club..

    regrets

im, three yrs away from retiring and buying a nb,just wondering if people have regretted buyng a narrow boat rather than a widebeam, i can see the obvious benefeits of both, all i can come up with at the moment is buy a nb initially for a couple of yrs then sell house and have widebeam as well, plan to spend as much time as possible on it cc,ing, want cake and eat it basically...
  4. Because of timings, I ended up mooring just in front of jesus lock, seemed to be last mooring left there so was probably lucky, and got a taxi to newmarket,30 quid.Got last winner at 7to2,but never paid for the day or taxi fare lol.Stayed overnight for two nights, great city. Not keen on the run from salters to great ouse turn ,bit bland , but overall a great trip apart from getting stuck on the grt ouse to earith and having to jump in and push it off against the strong wind, but all part of the fun of boating.ha..
  5. Apart from ely, a bit boring between sluice and gt ouse turn.Should move Cambridge up a bit to make it a better trip
  6. Having just come back from the nene, grt ouse and cam area, I found that when taking on water, that it was difficult to get the thing to unscrew again, when we filled at earith, someone had cut their hose and left the end still screwed on, but when I went to unscrew it , it came off very easily, but after I filled up, I then couldnt inscrew mine, and had to cut my hose, and then use the one that was left on earlier to renew mine. Exactly the same scenario happened at cambridge jesus lock, although , I was able to to get mine off again, and this time used the screw left there as it was a better silver screw and was able to use there jubillee clip.So I summise that after filling up the thing must swell for a bit afterwards, but then shrink to original size making it easier to then undo. Never noticed this anywhere before, cant be a case of doing up too tight as after a while it is then easy to unscrew. Just weird and an observation if anyone has the same problem..
  7. mmm, dont know if thats good or bad , wanted to just moor somewhere for the friday..

Thanks for that, want to go to Cambridge from march and back in a week, but one day will be spent at Newmarket, so just thinking about the logistics,if it takes six full days , i would only have five, so will have to rethink..

  14. Hi, planning on going Newmarket races in September, my question is, where would best/nearest place be to moor, to get there, suppose I could just get train from mooring in Cambridge, but I see there is a tributary going close to newmarket is that navigable. Any knowledgable ideas ? RACE/NB fans...Cheers.
