  1. right i replaced the valve kit and put it all back together hooked it all up and turned it on and it just ran and ran and no water is coming out of the taps. things i've done - opened all stop cocks and checked them twice opened the taps closed the taps pressed in the pressure release on the accumulator ( i guessed it was like bleeding a radiator? ) i even tried banging the pipes ( and my head against the wall! ) I unscrewed the outlet from the pump, nowt coming thru I've turned it off now I guess i could have done something wrong putting it back together which i'll check tomorrow but any other suggestions?
  2. Thank you both, I did have a turn of it and it seems to have stopped now, phew. At least if it does go again i'll know what to ask for!
  3. Cheers springy, just on a side note we've now developed a leak, under the kitchen sink is this tap thing with 2 bar written on it and an anti-clockwise arrow, it's on the pipes that go on into the bathroom, it has (what i'm guessing is) an overflow pipe which goes into the washing machines outlet pipe and the water is steadily flowing out of the side of the boat. Anyone know what it is? Should I replace it? I love these times when I need a crash course in things I know nowt about!!
  4. so i've got a shurflo 2095 which recently started leaking round the edges, so following advice on here I got a replacement valve kit. Set up -> water tank - stop cock - water pump - pressure tank thing - another stop cock - outlets. I'm going to have to remove the pump from the system cos there is no room to work on it where it is and obviously I'm going to close the 2 stop cocks but my question is about the pressure tank thing - is there going to be a lot of water and is it going to go everywhere?? Any advice appreciated
  5. Just a little warning for others who moor at Sawley Marina. On saturday morning my bicycle was stolen from the south bank, it was locked up, chained to a sign. Another guy also had his bicycle stolen on the same day, also chained up. The hole in the fence/hedge seems to have been fixed, but really it is the work of seconds for people to get through there. So be careful.
  6. Got to be honest, I felt sorry for you and any one else who happens to find themselves unemployed, but have you joined any job agencies? I work in a hotel, as a maid, we constantly have new people in and out, mainly immigrants, who all seem to find jobs. Are you only looking for full time work? cos to be honest you'll have virtually no chance. You want to be looking for a few part time jobs. You say your appearance goes against you - I've got piercings and tattoos - one on my head - yet i can take my percings out and cover my tattoos for work, so whats your problem? Have you tried going for seasonal work? As for not claiming - you must have some hidden wealth then if you can afford to be without the £60 odd quid they pay you.
  7. I wish i was wealthier, I have a feeling I'm not though as my friend recently told me that i'm no better off financially than i would be on the dole lol! Survey done
  8. I woke up this morning and my battery charger was flashing its light at me. It's never done this before, it won't let me select the charge the battery light it just flashes on the standby light. I have turned it off at the mains and turned it back on and it still flashed at me. The unit is a Tronic T4X car/motorbike charger, it's plugged into the mains and is hard wired to the battery. Just wondered if anyone else had one and could check the manual? Cheers chaps
  9. Yeah my neighbour was telling me they'd had some stuff taken. It's sad. It's got me thinking that they must have a key - whoever is doing this, cos I can't see a bike being hauled either over/through the hedge/barbed wire/gates. The management response seems rubbish, have they even reviewed security? maybe checked that there are no significant holes in said hedge/barbed wire fence? If the CCTV ain't working it probably explains why the gate is left open at all hours, maybe helping the perpetrators? and nothing is done about the people who do that. People will vote by moving if nothing is done about it.
  10. I prefered Captain Janeway, i always like a woman in authority.
  11. Oh yes i can understand that, the point being she was working full time (ie at least 38 hrs a week) during all that time for the same employer, so her NI wasn't in doubt, after telling them that she didn't have every single last payslip, they said "well send us your last 2 years bank statements and we will work out what hours you worked from the pay you got"?! She did send copies - heavily black marker penned out so all they could see was the wages going in. They then took another 4 weeks to do whatever they where doing with them, She finally got paid her JSA nearly 3 months after 1st claiming it, she's back in work now and is so much happier for it. I personally work in a job i don't like that is really not enough hours 22.5 a week and is minimum wage, and i'm probably not really earning much more than being on the dole, but i'd still much prefer to do it than have to sign on!

  13. True about the showers lol! Yes i've decided to ignore the noises, so much easier
  14. Back to the original post. The dole WILL make you jump through hoops - a friend of mine was asked to provide 2 years worth of payslips because she didn't work the same hours every week. The dole WILL make you look for work EVEN if you have a firm job offer. The dole WILL not treat you like a human being (sure the people you have meetings with will, but the organisation won't)YOU are a number and they don't want you signing on. Just be thankful they haven't asked you to go to job club or back to work or A4E yet - same muppets all about numbers, oh but they psycho-analyse you too - oh and you'll realise why you haven't been able to get a job yet - because A4E and similar get first bite of the cherry with certain jobs!
  15. I can't believe people get charged extra for a shower! And a 7 minute limit!!! I wouldn't even have my hair washed! What if the water goes cold/hot (not from any recent problems the showers here had....honest) do you get extra time? Is there a countdown style musical warning so you know when to rinse the suds off??

  17. No it's defo not the waterfowl i quite like that noise, altho it is sometimes shocking! I did wonder about mice but haven't seen any droppings or signs of them, I did have mice in a flat once so i know the signs. The noises come from the ceiling and the walls above the gunwales, only in the evening though, maybe its just the boat cooling down?? I really don't know what it is! I don't know what insulation is in this boat and if that would have any impact on that Oh and i've had the boat a year and i thought i heard similar noises last summer in the bedroom, but convinced myself it was just my sinuses clicking (as they do at night) but it seems to be all over this time.
  18. I keep hearing these sorta nibbly crackling scratchy noises from behind the wooden walls. I haven't seen owt but this is a bit weird, I've noticed a lot of spiders outside but not in the boat, i haven't noticed any other insects, could it be the spiders? It's really annoying me to the point that i was thinking about how to get behind the walls! Anyone got any ideas???
  19. Sawley Marina has residential moorings around £3000 a year this includes free electric and an engine service The leisure moorings grade 1 are around £2300, people seem to liveaboard but i couldn't possibly confirm it, possibly they spend a lot of time on their boats but obviously not all of it, i mean u must spend at least 8 hours a day working/shopping/not aboard so you would only be onboard 2 3rd's of the year - yes? And plus they must take them out sometimes?
  20. I don't know if there's any hotels near you but they are always looking for housekeepers/room attendants because the work is hard and usually minimum wage - i know i do it, i get around 20 hrs a week about £120 ish no tax no ni.
  21. If there's a lot of these disgruntled moorers why not get in touch with watchdog http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/ It can't do any harm!
  22. I was thinking of moving there - maybe not eh?!
  23. Thanks for all the replies, I thought it looked overly complicated, but knowing not much about engines wasn't sure. I don't even know what a heat exchanger is, i know what the skin tank is though So basically replace everything and try to simplify it, there is a bleed point on the skin tank. What i also wondered - In cars they have an expansion tank, could i replace the "water box" with one of them? I just wondered because recently i had the pram hood down and the water box filled up with rain.... that can't be good.
  24. It depends where you're living most marinas have rubbish and elsan disposal - often showers and laundrys and water and electricity and diesel. Moorings on the canal vary greatly with the facilities they have. However Sanitary stations provide water, rubbish disposal and toilets/showers Diesel can be got from boat yards and marinas.
  25. This is the water box This is the metal bit of the coolant system which is not attached to anything This is the pipe that goes from the water box and is cracked and leaking This is the rest of it Any advice would be appreciated, also whats the best way of getting all the rusty coolant water out of the bottom of the boat?
