  1. Having been with tiscali, then talk talk, I can say the service is ok until you need to deal with there customer services. Having recently moved from land to boat , when I phoned them to give them a months notice that I was moving and would not need a landline service any more, they said it was no problem as I was well out of contract. They then promptly cut my phone off immediately. When I contacted them (@ stupid money a minute) they basically said tough. Still waiting 3 months later for my account credit to be refunded!!!!
  2. I doubt it, having sat with the landlady & chief/landlord tonight, I think if you asked you would get a pint no matter what time in the morning. Talking tonight, they recon this is the first winter there breaking even after some staff restructuring (as in, doing it all themselves in the winter when it's quiet).
  3. Brian, just a word of warning, coming through the 2 beeston locks is quite unnerving because there is no leakage through the gates, (new experiance for me) unlike Wharton's lock, which does a good impression of a Wigan flight lock :-). Andy
  4. Meal was excellent, all freshly cooked and spot on, hospitality was excellent and the beer was good reasonably priced.
  5. Just to let you all know, all now open, came through @ 15.30 just as CRT were cleaning up to go home. Made it to the shady oak in the dark for dinner.
  6. Cheers for that, hoping to get through them before dark tomorrow night if possible, to avoid the bad weather forecast for Friday. Cheers. Andy.
  7. Can anyone confirm if Beeston stone lock will open tomorrow as scheduled, phoned CRT and they say everything is on schedule as far as they know. (they were a bit vague) Cheers. Andy.
  8. Ditto. Andy & Kerrie. (Hirers of grace June 2013) good luck.
  9. I cut my fingers on the one @ barrowford top lock, a right pain to use. None of the edges were finished off, seemed like they hadn't been touched since they had come out of the guillotine, and yes I have worked with sharp steel & stainless steel all my life so I should of known better. :-)
  10. Same setup as plated limited slip diffs (LSD) on race & rally cars
  11. Cheers for that, shame it's in London. But I can now get a bespoke one made locally by a friend. Just supprises me there isn't an off the shelf one available considering the amount of these fires in use. Thanks. Andy
  12. Good idea but link won't work. Andy
  13. Cheers, have searched eBay, amazon & the Morso website but nothing coming up @ the moment. Andy
  14. Does anybody know of any manufacturers of fire guards for Morso squirrel stoves. (18 Month old grandchild onboard) Cheers. Andy
  15. Thanks for the replies, but it's a 2007 70ft listed as hull by Birmingham boats? . Have done jim Shead, only 3 listed & 2 are the same boat. Going to see it on sat. (Have googled it to no avail). Cheers Andy. For Mr Harrison I got intimate with the spiders & rust a few years ago when I changed the engine on Badsey.
  16. Anybody have any experiance of hulls built by Birmingham boats. (good or bad) Going to look @ one with a 20 mm base plate, with the view to living aboard. Feel free to PM if you don't want your views public. Cheers. Andy
  17. As one of the two people who changed the P3 in Badsey on the dock @ Ellesmere Port boat museum in about 93/94, when a well known painter owned it, I don't think it would of started with a stick of dynamite, once we found it in the black hole of Calcutta/engine room. But the replacement engine & box once prepped was clocked at 75mph on the M53 (on the back of a moggy pick up. (Fun days)

  19. We went in on the 16/06/13, the day after the duck sank. We were lead boat & got nothing round the prop, even though around aintree & the strand the canal was full of allsorts. Came out on the 22nd but was last but one on a very windy day, so we all had to keep the power on a bit so probably what helped with the fouled prop. Would do the journey again tomorrow though as we loved avery bit of it.
  20. Just to let you know we did moor there for best part of 24 hours on the way in, only trouble I had was when I walked down to the garage @ the end of the road & 3 blokes in a van tried to pick a fight with me. Stopped there on the way back for a couple of hours, but that was only to remove the mountain of plastic bags from the prop.
  21. When we came through 3 weeks ago, the main problem was the bottom lock, both gates leaked so much the pound was almost empty when we got there (lock in our favour). Had to flush water down from the next 3 pounds just to keep enough water in the lock & pound to get through. Once in the next lock you could see the pound going down with the gates & paddles closed. Also surprised by the amount of faulty & broken paddle gear. Still enjoyed it though.
  22. Having just done this trip, can recomend the moorings & food @ the foulridge visitor centre & definitly the moorings above barrowford locks.

  24. It wasn't grim today, but was interesting, did the Wigan flight in the blistering sun, only to find the pounds @ 73 - 77 empty made for a different day, but still fun. Also off topic passed my first known forum members boat yesterday in parbold. The man that writes exceedingly good books.
