  2. The warning is hidden in the text....I clicked on the linky without realising, as it's very rare we have anything objectionable posted on here. Janet
  3. My two year old grandson was sitting on my knee when I clicked on that link - I'm all for some humour, but a warning would have been good. It's possible to be funny without the use of four letter words. Janet

  6. I'll be happy to lend a hand with the locks at Blackburn and Barrowford if I'm free. Janet
  7. Two lives lost...simply dreadful. From posts on Facebook, it appears that RCR are up and working again. Well done to everyone at RCR to be up and functioning again so quickly at such a difficult time. I hope everyone will have patience with them whilst they get to grips with this awful incident. Janet
  8. Some more good news about the canalside regeneration on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Burnley https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/news-and-views/news/historic-burnley-canal-wharf-secures-national-lottery-funding Following the brilliant reinstating of the old dry dock recently and the restoration of several canalside buildings, this is absolutely great news. 10. When my Grandma had a coal fire, we used to spend many happy hours twisting newspapers and tying them into tight knots to use on the fire. They certainly seemed to do the trick! I was easily pleased as a child... Janet

  13. Ginny spinner - another name for the crane fly or daddy long legs. Janet
  14. I don't like spiders or ginny spinners, but you know, I haven't seen any this year apart from one very spindly spider out in the garden a few weeks ago. As I always have the doors and windows open when I'm home, each autumn is usually spent batting the flying monsters away as they try and get in my face and hair, but not one this year...come to think of it, where have all the flies gone? Last year I had window stickers, sprays and fly strips...this year I've had no more than three or four flies all summer and haven't even had to get the fly spray out. There also seems to be a distinct lack of moths around. I'm not complaining...until I read this thread, I hadn't appreciated how clear it has been this summer! Janet

  19. If this is genuine, then it sounds like a good deal for someone wanting to spend a bit of time afloat and get a feel for what it's like boating through winter. http://www.gumtree.com/p/flats-houses/winter-boat-mates-wanted-live-aboard-a-narrowboat-nov-feb-vegetarian-meditation-wildlife/1080866703 I'd add that I came across this ad by accident and have no connection to the advertiser! It wouldn't suit me, given the vegetarian aspect...I'm with bacon butties all the way! Janet

  21. I'd like to nominate Martin James. He was a regular presenter on Radio Lancashire and when I contacted him as a totally new angler looking for information and not having a clue he invited me onto his private stretch of the River Ribble. He guided me for the day and then invited me back to learn the basics of fly fishing. I've spent several sessions on the bank with him and have learnt loads. He wouldn't take any payment for his services. A true character and a real gentleman.
  22. I've shamelessly pinched this from Facebook...I'm pretty sure the organisers won't mind.
  23. I'd nominate my fishing partner...I've never seen anyone as good on the canal! Janet
