  1. I've just replaced a Jabsco Aqua Filter (including the ring) and it leaks, dripping fast. I've replaced it a number of times without a problem. Has anybody else experienced this problem? If so, what did you do to cure the problem? Thanks John
  2. .....or does everybody using Shurflo water pumps have problems with the pressure switches? I seem to replace mine about every 9 months, always the same problem that they don't turn off. And if it isn't just me, why does it keep happening? Are they poor quality parts? Are they only built to last only so long? Or is there some other genuine reason that I haven't thought of? It probably doesn't take much guessing that mine has gone again tonight and no amount of adjustment makes the slightest difference. John
  3. Anybody know of cover repairers in the Nottingham area? Repair is for full length right angle tears in the roll up section. Not sure if it was inflicted to gain entry or just vandalism, though nothing taken. If it was for theft then they weren't the brightest as using the zip would have been easier. Having said that I never heard a thing. I assume any repair will be expensive. Are self repairs possible and adequate? In the meantime gaffer tape with have to do. Any info appreciated. Thanks John
  4. Thanks for all of your interesting responses. I guess 19 inches is on the small side, but I'm still happy with it, but might increase to 22 or 24, certainly no bigger. It also made me think, that since the introduction of flat screens, the screen size has grown enormously. How did we ever manage before?
  5. My 19 inch TV is on its way out an will need replacing soon. I am thinking about replacing it with perhaps a 22in or 24in screen but can't decide if they will be a little too big for viewing in a boat. If you already have a screen of that size, what are your opinions? Also I have mobile broadband so I am considering a Smart TV. I know it will depends on the area, but will Smart TV be more trouble than its worth on mobile broadband? Any views appreciated. Ta John
  6. Thanks for the quick info, the only problem with Aldi is getting hold of them when they are available. I seem to miss out on the sat dishes. Bottle, the one you suggest looks just the job though far more expensive than the Aldi option. One question though, how reliable are the magnetic and suction mounts i.e. do they stay in place or will they come unstuck in a bit of wind?
  7. The title says it all really, except it would be useful to have both suction pad and magnetic attachment options. Just need the dish as mine is recently deceased. Nothing fancy. Simple, effective and reliable. Any suggestions including where they can be bought would be appreciated. Thanks, john
  8. Thanks for the info re bearing stockist. I went to one and bought an o-ring of 38mm x 3mm. It was either that or 37mm x 3mm, but having bought that I found the new type strainer in a chandlers and it was much smaller than I expected, so bought one. It fits in the same space.
  9. Hi there, Having just replaced my water pump due to a leak, the in-flow strainer has started to leak in sympathy. It's is apparently obsolete: http://legacy.shurflo.com/pages/new_industrial/industrial/gen_industrial/genind_doc_sum/170-060-29.html I am pretty sure it is just the 'O-ring- that needs to be replaced, but I can't find one the right size anywhere and I'm not sure of the correct dimensions as I assume it has changed with age and hence leaking. So I guess the best option is to replace the strainer. My question is the new model and direct replacement? I am concerned about it fitting as there is limited space. The new one looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/SHURflo-255-313-Classic-Twist-On-Strainer/dp/B000V2W0GE Does anybody have experience of this replacement or know where I might be able to get an o-ring for the old one? Thanks, John
  10. Sorted. I moved the negative starter link from the leisure bank onto the shunt and also moved the solar negative onto the shunt and now it works perfectly. The starter battery voltage reading was still incorrect, but that turned out to be a faulty fuse. Thanks very much for your help. There's a wealth of knowledge out there on this forum and it's really appreciated. John
  11. I would expect a positive reading when the batteries are charging at a greater rate than they are being discharged, i.e. when the engine is running or the input from the solar panels is greater than the output being used.
  12. Thanks Robbo. I'd already checked that and I'm getting a negative reading as expected, just no positive reading when i would expect one. Also all connections are correct as per your suggestion. Martin, I suspect I will be taking your suggested route. John
  13. Hi there, I've just installed a Victron BMV-602S battery monitor and there are a couple of problems, which I would just like to run by those in the know before I return it. It is failing to register any power coming in, whether it is from the alternator or from the solar panels. Going out is perfect. Secondly is registers the starter battery at between 0.4V and 0.44V, which it clearly isn't. A volt meter states is at around 12.8 and the engine starts which is a bit of a giveaway. I've installed it once before and that occasion there was no power to the monitor so I sent the monitor alone back as requested and they have returned the same unit with a new circuit board to replace the one on the shunt. It seems to be installed correctly. It's pretty straight forward and that's why I chose it. Any thought, or have I been unlucky again and got another faulty one? Do these things actually work? Thanks, John
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions. You have given me plenty to investigate/think about. I thought Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure was a wind up, but clearly not. Will post in a while to let you know the resolution, though CTCCC sounds the easiest and quickest way, even if only in the sort term.
  15. I spotted a small leak on one of my windows recently. Now within the space of a couple of months most of the other have started leaking in sympathy! On the outside they have a rubber seals that look to be okay, i.e. there is no obvious point of entry. As this has happened in such a short space of time, it seems to me to suggest that the seals are reaching the end of the lifespan and perishing. The boat is about 10 years old and all the windows are original. Is this a known problem with rubber seals or could there be some other issue? I am beginning to dread anything more than a shower! Needless to say, it's raining now. Thanks, John
