  2. We will be moving from Mercia this year, not because we don't like it or its far away (only 20 minutes for us). Mercia is a wonderful marina with a truly excellent set of services and workshop as well as very nice moorers. The reason we are going to move? So we can experience more of the system, simple. The trick is in finding somewhere thats not mad in journey time, living in the Midlands gives us, I believe, an advantage to a degree.
  3. I always use the centre line to hold the boat while others sort locks. When in Banbury we moored using all three lines, just as well because the young gits managed to untie bow and stern but I woke up as they were trying to untie the centre line (I usually make some very pretty patterns when I tie the centre line). Other boat was not as lucky. BW ought to concentrate on what they do well, lose on investments and let us look after our boats, much better advice here than from them. Edited to add that I have two lines running from the centre to either side of the rear hatch, saves trying to lasso across all the stuff on the roof.
  4. Very funny thread!
  5. Noting the narrowboat can do both whereas the broad cannot
  6. Hi, I want to check how much water (if any) is sitting in my fuel tank. I have about 45 gallons in the tank and limited storage options. I have heard that water sits underneath the fuel (presumably if kept stable). Without removing the fuel:- a) How would I find out if I have water in the tank? If it exists what tools would I need to remove it (tools and tips) excluding the use of a filter between the tank and the engine? Thanks
  7. First, I am not one with experience, hence my posts last year asking about which engine. I chose a canaline 42. Why? Ease of servicing, cost, local boatyard supplied and fitted - Aqua at Mercia Marina. Only just started using it and am very impressed. Another thing to think about is engine management information, the delux panel that comes with my engine is ideal. Edited to add that a hospital silencer is a must.
  8. You must have an independent engine survey by a marine engineer, not a surveyor unless the surveyor is an experienced marine engineer and is prepared to do a full engine check including compression.

  10. Good luck, hope the peak does not hit too high. Paul
  11. Problem is a week/long weekend. I would stick close to Birmingham area (BCN) and not necessarily do a ring, an out and back would do it.
  12. I drink whisky, she drinks wine. We go to bed at nodding time and never have any bother, girls in the front cabin complain about the snoring, I never hear it, strange that! Seriously though, we really have had no bother with 4ft and our home bed is super king size. She has never needed a rolling pin, so long as I sleep walkway side, to visit the loo at the usual ungodly hour, no problem.
  13. Not on the list Mercia Marina Willington T & M
  14. Get an engine survey too, very important.

  18. Changed name when I bought mine Lola - The Kinks + approved by my children - who said I make the decisions lol
  19. Hi I have a self pump out kit, came with the boat. The previous owner said it was a doddle and used it regularly . I have used it but you do need to use disposal points close enough for it to reach as the pump hose length is limited. You also need to flush the pump out kit at the end of pumping and this can take a wee (scuse the pun) while. I use a very dilute bleach mix to ensure any bugs are destroyed and give the whole unit a good clean form time to time, whether used or not. Paul
  20. Tony Just tell em no cheese, they will, I am fairly sure, oblige paul
  21. A pub/restaurant I can strongly recommend, both for price and quality is the Bridge Inn at Branston, on the T and M, near Tattenhill Lock. You cannot book ahead but the location is popular with boaters as an overnighter, so get there before our long day boating friends. This could be an excellent thread as I am always searching for good overnight spots with/without the pub - but preferably with. The Bridge Inn
