Use of terms is important. Do you really want a longboat? I suspect you mean wide beam or narrowboat. i then suspect that such information will rest as intellectual property, if not I would be surprised and you will be fortunate.

I would suggest it’s better to cover with a number of thin layers as thickening will take a larger percentage off whereas many coats reduces loss over time. if you must thicken try cornstarch

Agree with Chewbacka. You were not in the queue going the other way until you passed through the lock, therefore you will join the end of the queue unless the boaters going in the opposite direction are happy for you to jump in due to location of winding hole etc etc. -
Ok, skin tank should have a bleed point. Engine, I would rely on others.
