Ok. Thanks for the condescending tone.
You seem angry

Ok, you may be right but I really don't like the way some people denounce others as being full of "hate" or "anger" primarily because they don't agree with them.
It’s OK not to like things. I’m sure you’ll be fine. -

I agree that it's odd to denounce giving (if that's what they were doing?), but what makes you presume that their motivation was anger? That seems like an odd thing to say too. How do you know what emotion the person who said that was feeling when they said it?
fair, it was an assumption, because I don’t understand why anyone would be so negative about this, that sort of behaviour usually stems from anger in my experience. If they were happy when they posted that, I think that makes it even weirder no?- 1

Can you imagine being so angry that you think it’s wrong for someone to want to give to someone who has lost something?
it’s very easy not to if it doesn’t ring to your tune, but to denounce it is weird.
I don’t have much money, but have just slipped a tenner in the pot in tribute of all the demerit signallers on this topic who make the world a little more grey.
We all know how much love and work goes into boat ownership, seldom matching the financial value or insurance payout. I feel really sorry for this owner, and I hope they are able to get back on the water one what or another soon.

I had a garden end mooring on the Thames for 3 years and I was well aware that it wasn't flood safe, so as soon as I got there I set to work and made two two scaffold pole tripods to ensure my boat wouldn't go over the bank, plus a massive concrete anchor on the river bed because the mooring was at the head of an island so I couldn't take a rope very far forward of the bow.
I think Stillearning is right. Often canal boaters with no experience of rivers find a river mooring in summer and they can't imagine what it could be like in winter flood conditions. They just have no idea. But it still amazes me that people who call themselves boaters don't think of making proper preparations.
I think I remember seeing pics of that Mike, or maybe your discrption on here? an impressive structure.
I have friends on houseboats on the KandA at the moment who are paddle boarding to and from theirs right now!

Anarchists and bleeding heart liberals, the people unable and unwilling to do anything about anything. I did, several times in my life.
This forum attracts them.
Maybe start a thread in the politics section then, i'd welcome the discussion.

Ignoring the oh so charming responses from those that are fortunate enough not to understand (yes yes, you came form nothing and worked for water blah blah) the single biggest issue you will find is getting landlord to write up a tenancy agreement. There are very few boat lords who are doing this aboveboard as it were, so it stands to reason that many want to do it on the down low, that said, if you get a formal agreement, The DWP wont care about the back story...
Good luck, I hope things brighten up in this world full of Tracy's..

I have heard that councils have an obligation to house homeless families but not single people, though perhaps this varies from one area to another.
Not so, a duty is a duty, but families will be found in automatic priority need because they have children.
There are other ways in which PN can be established, as per my previous post to Mr S

I think that @Wanted would know the law on that? It does seem nigh on impossible. There have been people living on the streets in my entire lifetime for one reason or another, regardless of incumbent administration.
Yes, The HRA is pretty clear in its legal offer, a Local Authority will have a duty to house if the gentleman in question has:-recourse to public funds
-has a local connection
-is homeless or threatened with homelessness within 56 days.
if he is in need to emergency accommodation, he needs to satisfy criteria for what is called Priority Need.
Priority need in law is ambiguous and states that you have to have reason to believe that the applicant is more vulnerable than the ordinary person. If that can be evidenced, then the council have a duty to house in emergency accommodation until they can relieve their homelessness duty with 56 days or give him a main duty thereafter.
on paper, from what I have read here, this chap meets all of this criteria and should be housed under pt7 of the housing act….
He may have a wrangle over local connection, but you only need be in an address for 6 out of last 12 months to obtain this, or work. It depends on how they view this accommodation.
If they will not help due to a previous intentionality decision, this can be despised because the chain of causation has been broken. However… in most cases such as these, all of this has probably already been established and the vulnerability of the applicant is what is also a barrier for them to be able to accept the help being offered or attempted to be offered, a vicious cycle of poor MH and housing need which nobody will accept.
In terms of how CRT manage these cases, I have an opinion that they often act as defacto landlords and probably should shoulder some more responsibilities, however, it will fall down to case law and who has the best solicitors and budget. Not for the individual case to argue alone.
I wish the chap all the best, if I can advise from a far, DM me.

That too is my recollection.
Some of his debates with Dave Mayall were legendary.
How they defended each others right to disagree with each other was admirable to the point you’d be forgiven if you thought they were family!- 1

On the issue of selecting a new mod. I personally dont think people putting themselves forward works because I suspect people who think they would be a good mod. invariably wont be and likely wont be somebody the bulk of the membership would find suitable.
A far better way would have been for the site owner and site staff to have an off forum discussion about who would be best and then for that person to be approached off forum and invited to become a mod. If they dont wish to take up that position then move onto someone else.
Nobody else needs to know who may have been approached but declined if that happens.
I can think of a few who I would approach if I was site owner/crew (and can also think of a few who I definitely wouldn't).
It is also an opportunity to address the current gender imbalance in the site crew.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Agreed, and I shall await my phone call...

Sell the house for 55k, buy a soundsystem and you'lll have £15k left over for a cruiser

On a more serious note, selling the house for £20k+ less than it's worth just so you can move before June sounds like a bad move. £20k is the difference between an OK boat and a much better boat, a lot of work done on the boat a few year's licence fee, or a year's earlier retirement for your wife!
40k wasn’t the cost, that was the kilowatts! I spent every penny I made on it and a truck full of diesel, had to sell it to pay off a fine in France! They didn’t like acid techno apparently…- 1

I owned a house once, I sold it and bought a 40K soundsystem and travelled around Europe putting on raves and squat parties. Never lived in bricks and mortar since and have wicked stories to tell my kids!
go for it, you’ll enjoy bits, you’ll hate bits, it will be easy and hard and you will overcome stuff you didn’t plan, what you won’t do is shuffle from this earth without adventure, and that, to my mind is worth all of it!

It’s hard to tell if you are getting value for money or not, but it does seem that the communication is poor and the way you are dealing with them is leaving you wide open.
I would be asking for individual written quotes for each bit of work, and I’d pay no more unless it has been agreed.

My and my Brother had a set when we were kids, we managed to find a channel that was used by the local taxi firm, caused absolute havoc for a while until they worked out we were the kids with the bloody great CB Ariel on the shed roof!
My handle was Chuck D (from public enemy)

Patrick, you’ve always been so considerate in my times of loss, I do hope you are able to remember those words and know that we are thinking of you. The love, care and adventures you showed your Dad was amazing. Rest well Magpie Snr, and give yourself as much time as you need Patrick. As I’ve already said, I hope my son Allows me the same adventures. Much love from us. X

Morso Squirrel door rope size
in Boat Equipment
Posted
well, I am clearly loosing the plot because I have just bought some new rope for a different squirrel than the one I was referring to 10 years back in my OP and I can’t get the door to close! A search on google took me to my old post which I forgot about! 😂
I don’t remember what worked last time, but this time I’m going to get some 6mm and see how it goes!
see you in 10 years time!
