  1. Smartgauge is supposed to take account of reducing capacity. That is one of its features. It invariably does read 100% early and will cause the naive to under charge and kill their batteries. The CYA bit about it being innacurate when charging is towards the back of the manual. You would miss it if you didnt read every paragraph.

  3. Given the context, its fairly obvious. You are being pedantic yet again!
  4. Is that in the standby mode, or full on? I have a Victron 2000VA which uses about 0.3A on standby and 0.8A fully on. Much better than my previous Sterling inverter charger which used 4A when fully on. The trouble with standby is that it needs a reasonable demand to wake it up.
  5. When a narrow boat employs an anchor in anger, it will usually be in an emergency to stop it being carried towards danger, so it will be moving at "speed".... There is no anchoring in a pretty little bay for the night, or lunch, Whereas, when a seagoing boat deploys an anchor it is usually stopped or moving very slowly so the forces arent as high. Assuming this to be the case, all things being equal, a narrowboat will need a heavier anchor than a seagoing boat. Not that i can be specific about the actual weight, other than suggesting, (like Alan*), as big as you can comfortably handle. * de Enfield

  7. You are too kind.... it was completely irrelevant
  8. I've got 500W of solar.... it doesnt quite keep up with my use when I am on the boat, even at the height of summer, so I have to do a 6 hour genny charge every 2 or 3 weeks. It would be good to have another 250w. (530Ah of Lithium batteries, 60A charger, Honda Eu10i genny)
  9. There speaks the forums pedantic font of all knowledge, from his huge glass house.
  10. The pdf states 2.4v per cell continuous charge, so 14.4v is definitely the setting for charging.
  11. After a lot of procrastination, I ordered these on Friday and they arrived today. A bit fiddly as I had to take my boots off to get them on, and they took some getting up to my knees over my jeans. However, they have been on for a few hours, a fair bit of walking around, and they have neither ridden up, nor down. So far so good! Haven't tested the padding function yet, but I'll give it a go on the foredeck tomorrow. Thanks Jen!!

  13. When my EU20i either wouldnt start, or cut out shortly after starting, Pete Power advised me to fill the oil to just about overflowing. It worked a treat.... something to do with the sensor he said. My EU20i eventually gave up due to the inverter failing. However, I do the same filling to overflowing with my EU10i. Could be worth a try??

  21. Agreed! I recall when buying our boat in 2011, it didn't take long, even as a layman, to establish which boats were worth what, and it was quite clear that the boat we bought for £18,000 was probably worth £25/£26k. The surveyor agreed Admittedly, I was only looking at the market between £15,000 and £40,000, aiming to spend up to about £30,000.
  22. Neither accurate, nor helpful, I'm sure you would agree As a matter of interest, which particular individual do you think they are talking about, and did they actually buy it?
