  1. It's not difficult to maintain a speed less than tickover.... not really an excuse for exceeding a speed limit, or going too fast past moored boats.
  2. Cant find Varta Hobby 28 on their site...... but the search facility seems worse than poor

  11. Agreed, but horses for courses and all that. After spending £50 on an upright recommended here, then £40 on a B & D 12v, and being repeatedly irritated and frustrated with both, spending £200 4 or 5 years ago resulted in no further irritation and frustration. At less than a quid a week, and falling every year, it was money well spent.... for me! Nobody has to do what I have done As above, I’m just passing on the benefit of my experience. As they say, YMMV
  12. My B & D was 12v. Probably about 4 or 5 years ago. You should buy what seems best for you... you don’t seem to want it for the same things I do. Just passing on my experiences
  13. I’ve got 3 cassettes. Easy to fill two, before emptying one, but no excuse for filling 3!
  14. It’s not two hundred quid like the Dyson V6 I read the reviews of the Black and Decker when I bought mine for £40 a few years ago. They were very good. With hindsight, I can honestly say that the Dyson is at least 5 times better, (although it is charged by 240v, so not all boats will be able to power it).

  17. We have a Dyson upright at home and on the boat. We also have a Dyson V6 cordless handheld on the boat and at home. The handhelds both have the extension attachments, so can act as an upright for 6 mins or 20 mins, dependent on the power desired. On the boat I initially tried a £50 upright, and a £40 12v Black and decker dust buster. Both irritating and prove the old adage, “buy cheap, buy twice!” Can’t believe I spent a couple of hundred quid each on 4 vacuum cleaners, but they are all worth every penny.
  18. I have a 2000 Gary Gorton boat and have changed the lights at least twice since buying it in 2011. All the light fittings I’ve bought have had integral switches. I’ve fitted LED bulbs to the latest set. So.... I would suggest buying a new light fitting from a boat, camper van, or caravan shop, in which case, the world is your Oyster
  19. You are not alone in that. We no longer have a cleaner for that very reason. Go Figure indeed!!
