  1. This is worth a watch....... there is much more to What Three Words than we may have thought.

  3. I had similar with the fridge that was on the boat when I bought it. Checked a few things then called out a fridge engineer. I think it cost about £85 for the call out and inspection/testing. He diagnosed a failed compressor and couldn't find a replacement, soi had to buy new. I'd guess after 9 years, it may have had a good innings, and the time has come to buy a new one that won't last anywhere near as long
  4. No Brainer! If you or your family don't want to use it yourselves, just sell it. Letting would be very complicated, and expensive.
  5. I've found that dual sim phones require you to "manually" change the sim used in settings I.e. they don't change automatically based on quality of connection.
  6. So it's £6 a month for 500Gb for 30 months. A very good deal by any measure!
  7. Looks like a DC power input to me. Can't tell what the voltage is, but the 240v adapter should have it printed on somewhere
  8. Given that you have done most of the hard work, assuming you have got rid of any loose rust, I would coat any rust remaining with Vactan before the various topcoats. I did this in my engine bay to good effect.
  9. What makes you say that? My instantaneous is ideal.
  10. I understand the forum is looking for moderators. You seem highly qualified
  11. Particularly as he wasn't interested

  13. It's always possible that the BSS inspector was thorough and pragmatic, whereas the surveyor has made mountains out of molehills. Nobody here can possibly know. and that is exactly what the OP has done. I don't know where anyone has got the idea that the survey is being ignored.

  15. I've been using Smarty since about last June. If I was asked about Customer Service, I would have to choose N/A as I havent needed any. Everything has worked as I would hope and expect. In terms of satisfaction, I suppose my answer would be 100%.
  16. I keep clicking on their repeated ads for 5G home broadband, and they keep telling me that it's not available in my area yet.... not even 4G! My area is a densely populated residential area just South of Manchester City Centre and my Smarty sim in my phone works fine on 5G Three are obviously being very selective with their so called home broadband offer
  17. You really struggle with admitting you are wrong don't you! The post was effectively in two halves... the first half about "her" boat, and the second about "a" boat. Try reading what was writ again eh!
  18. You seem quite bitter about this? Home buildings insurance is based upon rebuild cost, which is completely unrelated to value, (other than by coincidence). Given that we generally give our insurance companies the rebuild figure, (often on the advice of a surveyor), I don't see how it can possibly be a con by the insurance company?
  19. Have you asked for your money back? What did they say? If you haven't asked, then that should be your first step. If they refuse, or ignore, then you need to pursue it in the courts. They will have no alternative other than to defend it or cough up. Having said that, you may lose, and any money spent will have been good after bad. Although you seem to believe you have all the evidence needed, so I would crack on with it.
  20. How much did he pay for the boat? How much does he expect to sell it for? This is quite specific, and seems to make it clear that a boat which is a continuous cruiser is not a dwelling house, and not liable to CGT: "The analysis which applies to caravans equally applies to houseboats. Houseboats will generally be tangible moveable wasting assets and so exempt from Capital Gains Tax under s45(1) TCGA92. A houseboat which is permanently located on a site and connected to all mains services may be regarded as a dwelling-house. If the houseboat has been used as an immobile residence for a period of 6 months or more and has had all of its engines removed it should be regarded as a dwelling-house. Other cases should be considered on their specific facts. Occasionally yachts, barges or other boats are used as the residence of their owner. In some cases, the useful life of the boat is such that it cannot be regarded as a wasting asset and so a chargeable gain may arise on its disposal. Where this is the case the boat should not be regarded as a dwelling-house except in the circumstances explained above which apply to houseboats."

  22. I think my coffee machine uses 90A, so it wouldn't take much to find something quite normal that uses over 100A for a short time.

  24. I have an instant gas water heater and the shower wouldn't trigger it. I found out how to increase the water pump pressure and gradually increased it until it would trigger.
