The subject was someone hiding their assets then claiming state benefits rather than an attempt to avoid death duties.
ETA I did have to check this and it seems the term "deprivation of capital" is more common. However there is a thing where if you give away capital such as houses or money or investments specifically in order to claim means tested state benefits you will be treated as if you still have the assets.

I still burn some Columbian doubles now and again. It is real coal and smells like real coal but less dirty than old house coal.
It's all going to be banned end of May but I'm interested to see if one can still acquire it.
Is it going to be like the drug trade I wonder.
It is called Deprivation of Assets.
It is deprivation of assets if and when you are “in contemplation of care”. If you are fit and well you can do whatever you like with your assets.

Sorry to hear of Arthur’s demise.
Cats are great company, I hope the ginger one suits.

Santa brought me a 4.9 l air fryer. Daughter was donated one from a friend who’s family is too big to make it useful..
Daughter and her flatmate hasn’t turned the oven on since!
im getting to grips with it and have the advantage of having a warming drawer in my kitchen so I can cook meat and leave it to rest in the warming drawer whilst cooking potatoes etc.I do take issue with some of the fanatics on the FB airfryer groups who want to do everything in an air fryer just because they can.
for example, boiled eggs, why? why, when boiling on the hob is jist as efficient?

Would their "oven chips" actually taste good in an air fryer because they certainly don't in an oven
Their gastro chips are fairly good, the less upmarket ones, I agree are too cardboard for my liking.

This seems to be a very common issue that people find in various reviews. You simply cannot rely on the cooking times stated on food packaging and have to time and often temp. adjust downwards due to the intense way they cook. Often resulting in spoilt meals initially.
McCains apparently are working on adding air fryer timings to their products, they’ve started in the US

I have to agree. Baked beans are first class way to ruin a classic "Full English", as a fried breakfast is called around here. I reckon a Full English with disgusting baked beans should be called a "Full Welsh"!
P.S. Its only a true Full English when there is fried bread on the plate too. As Tim points out, this is getting increasing rare.
A full Welsh breakfast will have cockles and laverbread. Beans should be served in a ramekin so one can take them or leave them

Good recipe, the main thing is to use dripping. Oil is absolutely hopeless, yet many people use it and wonder why their yorkies are crap.
I’d post a photo of them if I knew how

Always, a plate full of roasties and a equally large plate full of yorkies, yum
Unfortunately I've never managed to make a decent Pud, so rely on others to dish the goods
You need James Martins yorkie recipe, I scale down the amounts because there is rarely more than three of us but they are lush.

As this is supposedly a thread about being generous in one's approach, it seems a little unnecessary to drag up ancient history. Just saying...
A see your point.
However, I find it hypocritical that those proclaiming that things aren’t so bad have been amongst the offenders.

I think it's mainly unintentional, people just write something which can be interpreted as being awkward, or not sympathetic.
PS you have to be on here for a few years to get the sort of following I have, three on ignore that post nearly every comment I make, even though they are aware of my opinion of them, or possibly because of it.
I avoid FB because it seems to encourage swearing and vitriol, at least swearing is not allowed on here, though ¥*** and suchlike are allowed, aparently.
You have a short memory, you have in the past been the first to take offence at comments criticising you. Not least during your brief spell as a moderator.

Ok serial hirer here with serial hirer friends.
we look at routes and usually chose those with the most locks!
I would rather eat my left tit than go to the gym/ do formal exercise, but give me a flight of locks and I’ll walk miles, set up locks, you name it. PLEASE don’t choose a route that has few locks, you would be doing your friends a disservice IMHO

Look after yourself and do what BSP says, including a return to hospital if required..BSP, feel free to rope me in as a “persuader” if he is being stubborn, I’m prepared to travel and I’ll bring Patty with me, he won’t stand a chance with all three of us on his case
Monkey, be afraid, be very afraid.

I have recently found a recipe for a baked leet and smoked haddock (or cod) risotto. It is so lush it renders me speechless and husband and daughter are ecstatic.
however I reduce ther recipe there is always enough for a second meal!

We in Swansea can recycle glass and metal and paper and cardboard, hard plastics, milk cartons etc but not carrier bags or flimsy plastic along with food waste and garden waste..
plastic and non recyclables I.e. black bags, three per household, one week and the rest the following week.
I have no idea what happens to it once the bin men take it away

You're welcome. Glad to have bin able to help....
But more seriously, I think you worry too much. Let her make her mistakes. A new version Fiat 500 is prolly fine in cross winds if perhaps a bit scary.
Easy for me to say as not my daughter, but if it was I'd still let her find out the hard way. Human beans have a way of getting out of tight spots their parents think are terminal....
E.g. my younger daughter is getting married next weekend..... 🙀
This is a 2009 Fiat 500 though well maintained at ‘rents expense (still a student).
You’re right, I almost got married at 21, that would have involved years of heartache for all involved.
Your daughter has my best wishes for a long and happy marriage and also my advice to tolerate no bullshit whatsoever.
It’s worked for me (28 years married and counting).

Get her to email Frank, he is a nice bloke who will be delighted to help her learn how to roll her Fiat on lawns in front gardens.
Hope that helps.
Gee, thanks, I’ll sleep tonight.
