  1. When turning right onto the Severn out of Diglis lock where do you stop to pick up crew? Do you use the lock landing which is downstream then wind or do you turn upstream then drift backwards onto the landing? Or maybe some other way I've not thought of?

  3. Allan Cazaly did a great repair job on our cratch and pram cover. He's very enthusiastic about covers! He lives and works on his boat and is very proud of his sewing machine. Near MK at the moment. Search "cratch covers" on Facebook or pm me for his mobile number.
  4. I think Camden is probably the winner but Hebden Bridge is busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
  5. There was a yard by bridge 48 north of Rugby on the North Oxford that sold parafin from a pump. Can't remember its name. Don't know if it still does.
  6. I think it's a problem from the Three network rather than Water Explorer. (Technical nerdy alert) I have now changed my DNS server address to 8.8.8.8 as opposed to the one that Three allocate automatically and it now works ok. Sorry to bother you Stuart.
  7. Is it just me who is unable to access the Water Explorer website?
  8. A few weeks ago it was 58p per litre at Denham Marina in Uxbridge.
  9. Glad I asked now, I thought it would be Wendover.
  10. Are there decent visitor moorings (7days)? Is there any water and what about hook up? We fancy some narrow locks after all these broad jobbies so thought we might have a look.
  11. 58p for domestic at Denham Marina in Uxbridge last Friday. They were happy to do 100% domestic.
  12. Cambrian Wharf at the top of Farmers Bridge flight is good if there's space. 14 day visitor moorings. However some of the pontoons are permanent moorings. There are little signs to indicate which.
  13. Due to a strange quirk of physics as water drops below 4 degrees C it starts to expand before it freezes at 0C . So the colder water is less dense and rises to the surface. The effect of this is that ice starts to form on the surface as that is where the coldest water is. Most liquids don't do this but carry on contracting as they approach their freezing point and freeze as a solid block. Fish are very grateful for this quirk of physics.
  14. We are 60ft and were booked in there with no problem. They do only allow two NBs as the third space is reserved for the Community Boat. It was really easy to book. Sarah from Bespoke Boating Solutions was very friendly. I think it is really good to have this bookable option especially at the moment with pretty much the whole far end of Paddington Basin being taken up by winter moorings.
  15. We've been moored on the new bookable visitor moorings in Little Venice (thoroughly recommended by the way) for nearly a week now. I've been trying to work out where the train noise is comming from. At tube train frequency we hear definite train noise like there is an overbridge close nearby. Only there isn't such a bridge. Also the noise is only noticable whilst we are inside the boat, if you are outside you cannot hear this noise. So it must be the Bakerloo line (which Google maps shows going directly under the basin) noise being transmitted through the ground and the water to the hull of our boat. It's quite weird really. I wonder how deep the deep level tube tunnels of the Bakerloo are?
  16. They were still there when we came up the flight in December.
  17. When we bought our licence we were moored in a marina. 3 months later we rang CRT to tell them we were now CC ing. We didn't get a new licence.
  18. The Hertford Union (Duckett's) is closed due to a boat damaging the middle lock. It was due to close on 5th January for maintenance. It looks like it will be closed from now on until they finish the January stoppage. There is a long way round via Limehouse.
  19. Is a caravan boat one that pootles along at tickover speed towing a butty and won't let anyone following pass them?
  20. Isnt that a sump pound, i.e the locks at both ends empty into it? If so CRT need to know that it's down.
  21. Hope we're not on Dovetail's winter mooring! It was the only space available. Let us know if we are and we'll move on. We got stuck in the silt from the Brent below the Hanwell flight, much use of the pole was needed to free us. Is the gas gurgling from below going to stop ever?
