Yes, but.......  You have to call her by name before she replies.  I got one for Christmas a few years ago and when I recently dug her out I realised I'd forgotten her name.  Then when I remembered it and tried to listen to any BBC station she went wittering on about having to link my BBC account to a profile on the Alexa app on my phone.  I don't have a smartphone.  I'm sure I could listen to BBC stations without all this when she arrived.  Bloody woman.

Help! I think I've been left behind

Why not change "her voice" to a "his voice". I did. My hearing loss is in the higher frequencies and I find a male voice easier to understand.  Equally most smart speakers  are a no go area as they  don't  have any meaningful form of bass/treble adjustment.

Yes, we intend to use lacquer, not going through all this on a regular basis. Taken all weekend to get the old lacquer off four mushrooms :(

None of the lacquers i've seen so far claim the hardness you saw in their description, but Rylard's Brass Lacquer in rattle can form seems to be the most expensive so wondering if it was that?

No, It was in a metal tin with an application brush in the lid. It came with pre treatment de-greaser, lint free cloths and several other 'sweeteners'. I really should have known better. GOing down to the shed later and I'll look to see if I can find it. Watch this space.

I have quite a few propellers lying around in my hovel, within a few feet of me. I'll have a measure.

First prop, a Crowther prop made for my Kelvin K1 is 71.0mm outside diameter at the fat end of the boss.

Second prop is 66mm outside diameter. This is off a lifeboat that had a Lister HRW2 in it. It is actually bigger in diameter at the centre than at either end. Peaking at about 70mm I'd guess but my vernier won't reach.

Third prop is of uncertain origin and the boss is really bulbous in shape. The machined flat area at the end for the nut and washer to bear on is 58.8mm diameter but the centre of the boss is closer to 85mm.

😀And I get concerned about a bit of dust.

OP, Good luck with the hip op

  4. Regarding oil quantity. How are you pumping it out? If it's some type of stirrup pump where does it pick the oil from? When I had one fitted to my 1.8 D it screwed into the drain plug tapping. I 'converted' to a Pela which using a thin probe  which reached down to the bottom of the sump. (some fiddling and twiddling was necessary. Allowing for the oil filter I used get a good 4.25litres out.

Nothing to do with ‘HMRC tracking’ whatever you think that might be. It’s one of several anti -fraud measures designed to make sure that you know who you are paying and in return by asking you to confirm that you do, it covers the banks arse if you say you’re happy with it and it then turns out to be a scam.

Precisely,  some see Reds Under The Beds everywhere!

  6. When I stripped all the brass (off the boat) I used proper paint stripper. After a lot of searching I found it on E Bay. I think I became a business for a day😇. Far more difficult than the stripping was the polishing afterwards. You name it, I tried it. The most effective were buffing wheels and buffing compounds on a 6" bench grinder. Other methods tried included (in no order of effectiveness) polishing bobs in electric drills, Dremel with mini buffs, wire wool, fine wet and dry, car buffing compounds, Brasso, valve grinding paste, Finally - swearing😇. It took me over 80 man hours to get a reasonable result.

Assuming that you intend to lacquer the end result the only advice I would give is to steer clear of a (very expensive) product that claims to be "many times harder" than diamond (can't remember it's name). Despite following the instructions faithfully it never hardened properly.

    Good luck.

Perhaps its about time CRT only granted CC licenses when the applicant provides proof (receipt) that a local council tax, or substantial cash contribution, has been paid for that financial year to a Local Authority (of the applicants choice).

That's been my view for many a year but it's a dangerous one to voice on a forum such as this😷. Presenting a balanced view, the real 'villain' is the cock-eyed Council Tax system. Mind you, the whole tax system needs a radical overhaul but you'd need a dictatorship for that to happen.

They dont want to know, all the buttons are how to buy products, no email that i can find.

It is there somewhere, I've found it myself when I had a warranty claim, just a matter of searching.  Consider it training for all the hoops Samsung will have you jumping through prior to a repair being effected. A cyber tour of the  world awaits you. As for a Samsung retail outlet I fear your chances of finding one very slim.

it is side of the swim and it appears to only have top hoses at the top at either end, I looked at the bottom for perhaps a drain, but it doesn't seem to have one, I will pump it out, it's been in there since 2019 and I would like to put clean in. I'm heading over now to the boat, I do have Blonde moments, so I will examine again.

My skin tank had connections on the top so it's not that unusual. Poking about with a piece of stiff wire revealed which one had an internal pipe down to the bottom. years later I had a poke around with an illuminated endoscope (when it was full but it was so murky it was a waste of effort.

As suggested elsewhere I used a Pela to empty it. This has the advantage of confirming it's capacity.

    Exactly this! ^^^^^^^^

It was a good paint, and very easy to use.

However the Woolworths that I used to buy from seldom had more than about 3 fairly small cans in any chosen colour.

Painting an entire cabin would usually involve you visiting multiple stores!

When I was a child my parents swore by Woolie's paint (Mum  was always the gloss painter). I well remember being sent off to get an extra pint of one colour or another. None of this 1001 shades 😎

Maybe but in our case we finished up with a boat with loads of extras that would have cost much more new and I couldn't possibly find a boat with all the fitout I wanted.

On the other hand you end up with a shed load (literally) of left over fittings, fastenings and materials. At least, I did.

  12. When my wife died I decided to buy a new 55' hull and fit it out myself from scratch. Everything, including a mutual and bolt engine rebuild. I was still working. It took me well over 5 years to get to a stage w1here it could reasonably be used for day trips and several more before it was completed (almost). Technically I was a competent amateur with a background of off-shore sailing.  It's not a quick job and multiply any imagined costs by two, maybe 3.

Those cars used the pre-war Morris 8 s/v engine with thermo syphon cooling,''no water pump'' In order for a heater to work a water pump was needed. This was a pump mounted on the engine by the fan belt, pivoted and spring loaded to keep it's big alloy driving wheel in contact with the outside surface of the fan belt which drove it and supplied hot water to the Smiths recerculary heater. Many old cars with thermo syphon cooling systems could have one fitted as an extra.  I fitted a few to old Ford 103E Pops ect years ago.

Don't you mean E93a Ford Pop? My Dad's E93a had one fitted exactly as you describe.

You can modify standard blinds by sewing small magnets into the fabric and have a corresponding metal fixing on the outside of the window frame. If you wish you can add metal fixings at different heights.

You can also get adhesive, magnetic tape. (rather like Velcro) One pole on the bottom edge of the blind, the other pole on the side of the cabin side

Watneys Red Barrel was certainly a warning pint.

It was the on tap beer on the ship that bought me to the UK in 1974.

Very disconcerting, if that was to be the fare from these legendary British pubs that we were intent on patronising.

After that first pint stayed we cans of Australian lager for the rest of the voyage. 4X, VB and Fosters, such was our desperation.

It took finding Camra, and some time, and even more practice, to discover the pleasures of a good well looked after and drawn British crafted pint.

I used work overlooking a Watneys pub. The Red Barrel was literally delivered by tanker. Says it all.
