  2. Having refurbished my rather old Morso Squirrel, I am now wondering how best to seal the top of the flue to the socket. I`ve chiselled the old sealant out but couldn`t see what had been used originally. Would a combination of sealing rope and fire cement be OK? Any sensible suggestions would be welcome!
  3. Thanks for all replies (mostly). It looks like I'll have to strip it down and then assess the general condition before I decide which way to go.
  4. I think I'm in trouble. Falcon has a Morso Squirrel fitted (about 20 years old). I,ve noticed a little smoke in the cabin recently and on investigation I find that the back panel has cracked. I can get a new panel easily enough but there are complications! My stove originally fired the central heating radiators, but before I bought the boat the heating was disconnected and blanked off leaving the two plumbing unions projecting from the rear panel. Does anyone have any idea if it's possible to convert the stove by removing the boiler or maybe just the pipes? I don't want to go to the expense of buying a new panel only to find that it doesn't fit. I'd be grateful for any useful advice. Ray
  5. Thanks for all your suggestions. Particularly the thought that we could maybe level things up by removing some ballast. That's lateral thinking for you! Ray
  6. Our trad. stern 47ft boat was built by Stowe Hill Marine about 1989. We have owned her for 12 months or so. There is a noticable list to port which I think has been there since we bought the boat. I'd say that this side of the boat is about two inches lower in the water than the other side. It's been pointed out to me that most of the weight is on the port side i.e. engine and batteries, bed base and mattress, bathroom and pump-out tank, galley and dinette, with only the woodburner to starboard. Is this something we have to live with or could I correct it with ballast? If so, how much and where would it go?
