  1. All is now sorted! Just had a call from the Brentford lockie, all apologetic, he wants me to leave Teddington at 9 to allow him time to get to the lock! I wonder if they all use CWF? So thanks for all your inputs, I can go to bed a happy man! I will now wake up in the morning and see that it is pis....g down and will do so for the whole of tomorrow morning! Hehe! Nipper
  2. Yes, it's quite bizarre really. But, why go to the lengths of issuing this notice containing "Canal & River Trust - Thames Lock (Brentford) Availability" http://www.thamescruising.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/8181-tidal-lock-times-2015.pdf. How the some of CART works is really quite remarkable! Nipper

    Pewsey Wharf

Last time i came through there, a few weeks ago, there were 4 boats moored on the water point! and the hotel boat had made himself comfy on the 24hour moorings, where i saw him 3 weeks before!! Nipper
  4. I have just spoken to the duty lockie at Teddington and he suggested the same! Apparently nobody went down to Brentford this afternoon, so the Brentford duty lockie would not have been there to pick up my phone message! He may be there tomorrow morning to get the tide and pick up my message then, or perhaps he may not! I shall get down the for 7-30 ish and wait as close to that lock as possible, The Teddington lockie said he would make a note of my call, so tomorrow mornings staff will be aware of my needs! What a way for CART to run an entrance to there waterway! Nipper
  5. Hi All! On the advice of the Teddington Lock keepers, I phoned up Brentwood Lock to arrange a passage through the lock from the Thames onto the Grand Union at the high water tide tomorrow. Those that will know, will be aware that there is an answering service at that lock, you have to leave a message stating boat name, phone number etc. I left my message at 10-15 this morning! Tomorrows morning hight tide at Richmond is at about 09-05 am, so locking out at Teddington at that time would be fine for entering Brentwood an hour or so later! I have waited all day at the Kingston Moorings for the reply to that phone call. No reply has been given by Brentford. So, what do I do now? Do I sit here and wait for that call or do I mosey on down to Teddington Lock first thing in the morning and perhaps take the tide and see if I can find a safe mooring outside the Brentwood Lock Gates, or do I just sit here, by then overstaying at these Kingston Moorings, and wait? Also by then, of coarse, my transit permit from the Wey to Teddington would have run out as well. At 4-30 this afternoon I did repeat my message to Brentford just in case they had tried to phone me and because of bad phone reception, didn't get the reply call, which is very good here! What's to do? Nipper
  6. But they do Starry! I got my Dahon bike back after it was nicked in my old Marina. I felt gutted and as i was cruising down the cut to the pub, i wondered if it was put on Ebay. So after i moored up i logged on to ebay and there it was! Dialed 111 or whatever it was then and a nice lady police woman gave it back to me the next day! Magic! I hope this van is found soon! 7. For what it's worth! I bought Largo from Whilton Marina about three years ago. My experience is very similar to Joe the Plumbers! Ever helpful and gave me about three weeks to ready the boat for the delivery cruise to a destination 58locks and 57 miles away! In that time i found out what all the buttons did and what the boat was really like! It was mentioned by the sales team that some buyers think that they can just buy a boat, get in it, find flowers on the table and food in the fridge and just go! Then blame Whilton because they have run out of fuel and tea bags! Only a fool would leave for a trip without checking everything on board and making sure all was running properly! Nipper
  8. I came up the flight three weeks ago with Largo and shared with an experienced hire boat crew alongside us, We got a rollicking for entering the upper flight after 1pm, I told the lockie that as it is still not 1pm and that all my boats clocks were saying it wasn't that perhaps his watch was wrong. He them went off in a huff on his quad bike! He appeared again when we got to the top lock at about 3-20 and drove back down the flight lifting the bottom paddles on his way down after locking the top gates. So, perhaps it's the lockie s themselves are a fault. Nipper
  9. In one of the most decisive naval battles in History, The British fleet under Lord Nelson defeated the combined French and Spanish fleet at the battle of Trafalgar, off the coast of Spain! Was it worth it? Discuss? Nipper

  11. Best arrange by land or get a temporary mooring, because you wont get far before March! Winter Stoppages! Nipper
  12. Getting back to Reading. This is the scene outside Tesco's this morning. Note, no visiting boaters shopping, but the constant moorers are still there! So, this goes some way toshow that the charges do nothing towards Readings constant mooring problem, whilst driving visiting boaters away. Well done Reading, I wonder how much you pay the person who came up with that! Nipper
  13. There apparently was room around the back of the Island. But if you did tie up to the bridge, all your ropes would be covered in rust! But it looks nice tonight, all lite up! Could of come along side! You would of been welcome! Then i could of explained the reason why i am not paying and nor should you! Nipper
  14. Half a mile! that must be plumbers miles! If you have the nerve, you could walk through the gate of the electric board, cross the car park and trip over the curb and hit your nose on Aldi's front door!
  15. from the new bridge walk along to opposite the boat yard on the Island, turn down the road away from the river and you can see the Aldi sign which is at the bottom of that road! Simples! Nipper
  16. Must of passed me! I'm on the park moorings, and i have no intention of paying! And now the new bridge is up and running, Aldi is but a short walk away! Nipper
  17. Me thinks more map reading skills are required, or maybe your reading the map the wrong way up Mate! Lechlade is on the River Thames, Stoke Buerne is on the Grand Union Canal.
  18. Mmm! Those that will, have turned this into an anti CART thread! I started this thread as a knocking Reading Council Thread! But, those that will, have now turned this thread into a CART bashing one! Just for clarity, The Environment Agency, have jurisdiction over the River Thames. It is Reading Council that is wanting payment for moorings, not The environment Agency. Nipper
  19. Wow Ana, we are talking about the river Thames here!
  20. Should work,Starry. Why not get a sim, they are free, then pop it in your Dongly and see if it connects? If it don't, you haven't lost anything, but i should think it would work, I have used lots of donglys and all work ok, some better than others. Nipper
  21. And i came off the Kennet and Avon to pass the only manned lock? Bums, still i had to pay for a Visitors licence sometime! Nipper
  22. I know one of them has a Drum kit! as he was thumping it out whilst we was shopping at Tesco's, Moored there without any intention of paying anything!
  23. Well, it was Cavasham Lock, The lady lock keeper could easily lift up the aluminium ladde,r as did the news reporter on the news report. The official bloke spoke and looked like he had just crawled out from under his desk, where he had been lurking in case someone wanted him to justify his salary!
  24. Have you ever tried it? Tie a life belt with a fair length of warp and see if you can get it near the casualty! Only, mind your end of the line because you might just get caught on what your trying to remember! Nipper It seems i and my boat have been on the Southern news! Now thats a first! Nipper
  25. Yes, throw lines are good unless your throwing them from a boat to a crew gone overboard. If he doesn't grab it or can't grab, it then it's almost impossible to get it closer to him by using the boat! The end follows the boat and whatever you do, can't seem to get the end near to the bloke in the water, even if you turn in ever decreasing circles, it never seems to get near him! Nipper
