  1. Hi all and thank you for your patience while we frustratingly have had to remain silent whilst the police and the courts were still active, as we did not want to predudice the case. The person who was found in possession of our boat has now appeared at the Crown Court in Nottingham and has at last pleaded guilty and has been given a two year suspended sentence and fined. The thief still appears to be at large and on going investigations are still taking place, The last nearly two years have been thwarted with every conceivable frustration. We will assure you that the whole story of our boat being stolen, recovered, police enquiry, Court Case postponements will be reported in full detail on both the forum and in the Canal World Magazine if possible and I think you will all agree that it will be an intriguing and amazing read. Whilst the final chapter is hopefully being written we must ask once again for your patience. The Forum as you know were fantastic and without you all would not have been able to endure the search for our boat alone. We cannot thank you enough for all of you who were watching for our boat, cycling tow paths, standing vigilant in the early hours guarding our boat etc. You were all Amazing. It has been suggested that our silence may be suspicious can we assure you we are united with our boat and no one we knew as a friend or relation had any dealings with the theft. Be assured we will tell all as soon as we can. You all have been terrific thank you! Watch this space!

  3. Thanks for info, very useful. I believe from pictures sent to me by previous owner that the engine in Heron was completely rebuilt not that long ago so i'm reckoning that no one who went to that trouble wouldn't have put a new belt on.

  4. (5 Feb 20) I got back home from my last spell in hospital on Thu 30 Jan (having survived major surgery on 8/1/20), and have been feeling pretty good ever since. I face undergoing follow up treatment over the coming weeks and months, with various dangers, but hope to continue my recovery and to "live long and prosper" as I think Mr Spock used to say. I think I'm likely to go on popping up on the forums posting about all sorts of subjects where I feel I have something to contribute. It's unclear if and when I'll be able to resume proper boating again, so I may have to turn down opportunities to crew for people for some time, depending on what sort of help they'd like. I'll be happy to offer advice on the subject I expect, it's something I've (nearly always!) enjoyed doing for years. A lot depends on how well I can recover, and I may not be able to do everything I used to for people, and with the NBT who I've often crewed for. Thank you everyone.

  5. Private marinas are NOT Trust's waterway. The Network Access Agreement does not give CRT ownership rights over the marina. CRT have no legal enforcement rights inside a marina. CRT have no legal right to a licence or the fee, unless a boat makes use of the Trust's waterway. A marina's terms and conditions, requiring the possession of a licence, do not constitute statutory powers of enforcement. As with PPI, the consumer is being forced to buy the unnecessary. Both marina and CRT are acting in their own interests and not in the interests of the consumer - the moorer.
