  2. A very apt explanation, just a slight adaptation to make, person B ( the fraudster) was not known to either of us, then or now. We simply know they exist. But thank you for clarifying. Person A is indeed happy at the prospect of a trip to IoM, as is person Aa (long suffering wife of person A who is concerned at A's inability to remember dates correctly with a wedding anniversary approaching! )

  3. I think someone known (at least at the time) has admitted, if that's the right word, to buying it in good faith, for cash, and then finding it stolen when he went to look for it. And that's where the story ends: Boat left on towpath by OP (person A). Fraudster, person B , sells it to person C for cash, who moves it to Wigan and leaves it on another towpath. Person D steals it, ostensibly off person C, but actually from person A. There is a suspicion by some that either person B or C is in fact the same as person D, but as person E, who is a policeman, isn't interested, we shall never know. Person A is happy at the Isle of Man watching motorbikes, which is nice.

  6. I've read it several times and can't understand the time line, or the role of the OP in the whole story. How do people know it;s been stolen, sold, then stolen again?

  7. Thank you. The cash buyer thing not reporting it is so odd that it becomes suspicious, but what can you do if the police aren't interested? I become less and less sure what the point of them is... Anyway, I'm sorry about it all. It's an awful thing to happen to someone and you seem to have recovered from the trauma.

  8. I have given the facts! I only found out some after my out burst, due to aggressive questioning. By those that are still having a pop, but a few of you on here understand. I couldn't in the first place be able to give some specific information, as there was an ongoing investigation. Now that is over, I have given all the information I have. I 100% agree it doesn't make sense, that the boat has been stolen twice, the 'new owner' did nothing, even though they have all my details. IF I paid cash for a boat, and it disappeared a week later I would be straight round the sellers house. My reply, is for the nice genuine people on this board. It is so easy to be an idiot, and appears more challenging to actually be nice on social media. So to all the greenies and up voted people THANK YOU

  12. Lovely morning cruise in blue sky and sunshine, but cool until the day warms up. I forget how lovely the Adderley flight of locks is until we do it ... peaceful farm surroundings. And the lady had stocked up the honesty shop at Audlem top ... pork pie and still warm bakewell slice, what a breakfast. Rog

  13. Problem with these threads is people side with whoever makes most sense in their eyes. Facts and reality often dont seem to add up in my opinion. We are not all 'professional quality' posters -I rarely make sense even on the odd occasion I actually know what Im talking about. Must be incredibly frustating for the OP.

  14. I totally agree, and it's good of @hilaleigh432 to come back and update the thread.

  15. Unfortunately OP put an incorrect date which appears to have created yet another debate.... For the record : the boat was last sighted by CRT in April, it was still there on 3rd May and gone by the time crt did their next checks. It was purchased and collected by a cash buyer on 17 JUNE from where it was last seen, sold by someone claiming to be the OP. The buyer moored it further up the canal near Wigan ( outside CRT ) and a few weeks later, went to the boat and it had gone again.... The cash buyer did not license, insure or report as missing. These are facts. It was OUR boat and it WAS stolen from us and yes, I'm quite someone is now cruising up and down the canal network in it completely oblivious. Thank you to those who were genuinely interested. Forgot to add for the conspiracy theorists because I put 'claimed'..it was actually proven that the person who sold the boat for cash was NOT the OP.

  17. I too was puzzled by the latest post and I think the OP struggled initially with what I’m sure to them was very aggressive questioning. Others were able to piece it together and it’s summarised somewhere above. So let’s try again. While the boat was at Plank Lane it was sold by someone other than the owner on 12th April 2024 and then moved to Wigan by the person that thought they were now the owner at some point after 26th April 2024. It then went missing again within seven days of arrival at Wigan. This of course was not known by the true owner at the time. And thats pretty much it. Folks can enter into conjecture as to why the second apparent theft wasn’t reported but that doesn’t help the OP.

  18. It seems that some folk still don’t accept the basic premise of the thread, or even the identity of the poster. But putting aside the theories and conjecture the basic facts presented by the OP all stack up; admittedly helped by a handful of posters who have explained the meaning behind the seemingly contradictory and additional information of the OPs recent post. There’s no reason to think that the OP isn’t genuine or isn’t the victim of a genuine theft.

  19. It’s pretty straightforward. Boat has been stolen; as per the thread title.

  20. Now that’s starting to make some sense of what appears to be conflicting information. I’ve been trying to get my head around how a boat that’s not been found can be sold or how it could go missing again from a different place seemingly on a date before it went missing the first time. So it seems the boat was at Plank Lane and was subject to a bogus sale on 12th April 2024 and then moved from Plank Lane to Wigan after 26th April 2024 by the new ‘owner’. It has then subsequently disappeared and hasn’t been seen since.

  26. No booking. They do have hours of operation but lockies are often away doing other jobs, or at other locks, during those hours. When they are away or off duty they put up a blue board at either end stating it's self service. You can then operate the lock yourself by following the instructions provided. Generally it's electrically operated locks below Oxford and manual above Oxford. Much easier to use than canal locks though.

  30. They look grand but no salt! The one time I forgot the salt and the bread tasted off somehow, not bad just not like bread, considering how little salt goes in a loaf it was fascinating how much difference it made. I can't post any air fryer bakes as I don't own one, I've thought about it but that's as far as it goes But why in the first place, a light hearted thread about bread and other nonsense you posted what you must know is a controversial and unpleasant subject.

  31. I know, its a mess isn't it but this is what I inherited from the previous owner. There is a bus bar located under a seat in the saloon as well as a small consumer unit for the 240 v system alongside it. I plan to try and tidy things up and optimise the wiring before I put the engine back in hopefully soon.

  34. Being brutal, are you sure its the boat you like and not the price you like? If it seems too cheap then Matty will be right on the money, its a deposit-collecting scam. Which county is it in? If its anywhere near me I'll have a look at it for you and let you know what I think of it. Or post up the link for some peer review of the advert.

  36. Well this update from the OP just makes the whole situation even more of a mystery. I too read it that it had been sold to an innocent party by the thief. But the fact that this buyer then cycled off probably means this story is concocted by the thief to give himself getaway time. But who knows.

  37. In this case I would suggest that heading down river to Abingdon will be a much more interesting cruise for them and it's very easy to get back to Oxford on the frequent, fast and cheap bus service from Abingdon town centre. Avoid the number 35, which goes all round the houses, and get the X2 or X3. https://www.oxfordbus.co.uk/services/OXBC/X3?date=2025-04-19&direction=inbound I would also suggest they park the car at Redbridge Park & Ride (which is just off the ring road and not far from Hinksey Hill interchange on the A34) and get one of the many buses into Oxford city centre (parking in central Oxford is very expensive). https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/transport-and-travel/public-transport/park-and-ride/redbridge-park-and-ride The X2 and X3 buses back from Abingdon to Oxford all stop at the Park and Ride. As mentioned before, head through the bridge at Abingdon, past the attractive waterfront just after the bridge, and then turn near the short dead-end canal junction (on your right) just before the weir and the Culham cut (which leads to the lock) and head back to moor at one of the many places to moor above or below the bridge. Either (1) If you're still on the canal pick them up near ISIS lock (easy to get to from the city centre), or a bit further back up the canal, then go down the lock, along Sheepwash channel and turn left to head down river. (2) if you're already on the river you could pick them up at Osney lock or at East Street which is just slightly up river from the lock. Both are near Osney Bridge / Botley Road which is not far from the railway station and central Oxford. If they do park at the Park and Ride, and you're not bothered about stopping too long in Abingdon, you should even have time to go back up river and drop them off at the very attractive Iffley lock from where it's only a 16 minute walk (says Google Maps) back to the Park and ride. See attached

  39. It's a bit like if you buy a vanilla slice from the bakers, get home and open the box to find a lotus elan in it, you coat it with jam and it's now a croissant, but your boat has still sunk in the staircase locks

  40. After a lot of swinging on the handle it fired up and ran for a few seconds, I shut it down quickly as one of the crankcase doors wasn’t sealing and oil was being thrown out, it sounds nice , the first time it has run in many years. thanks for all the replies, I will hopefully get it going again once I have set up a cooling tank,

  41. Just goes to show that like most 'boat theft' reports... there's always more to it than meets the eye, and many unanswered questions...

  42. And then someone who paid cash for it (or says they did) walked away from the loss without going to the police or taking any further action? Wish I could wave goodbye to a few thousand quid as comfortably. It's an interesting point though. Someone buys a long unused boat for cash from someone who says they own it. Neither the real owner nor the fraudster have any proof of ownership (although the real owner would have a relationship with CRT and copies of docs), the only person who has anything is the buyer who has some kind of probably uninformative receipt. There is no proof that the real owner didn't sell the boat to the fraudster who then sold it on. You can see why the police don't want to get involved. I wonder what the insurance company, assuming it was insured against theft, made of it.

  44. That is how I read it from the OPs post.
    1 point
  45. I read it as someone selling the Boat who was not the owner. ie the Boat was stolen then sold and the CRT were informed of the sale but it was not in fact sold by the owner.
