I read it as someone selling the Boat who was not the owner. ie the Boat was stolen then sold and the CRT were informed of the sale but it was not in fact sold by the owner.

Being brutal, are you sure its the boat you like and not the price you like? If it seems too cheap then Matty will be right on the money, its a deposit-collecting scam. Which county is it in? We will be tourists that buy stuff there. Particularly meat and veg. We don't have room in our bags to take home schlock. Give me a proper English butcher shop (that means pies) and a good greengrocer and we are in heaven. In September I did a final shopping at Binns on our way out of Saltaire. I stood transfixed at the gorgeous length of Yorkshire tenderloin selling at an eyewatering 60 quid a Kg, and had a what-the-hell moment. Two 1-inch cuts taken out of my credit card, a quick trip to the veg shop, and off east to the rises to moor up at the top of Bingley for the night. Dinner started with a bed of greens, roasted mushrooms and tiny potatoes, plum tomatoes and stilton. I quickly pan seared the steaks to a proper American medium rare (smoke alarm!), and served them sliced over the veg pile. On the first forkful I nearly wept. It was very likely the best beef dinner I had ever experienced. That was obviously a very happy cow up to the end. Might try a re-do of that in Oxford. Don't know if the Oxfordshire cow would be as happy, but probably more educated and better paid.

Pop into Tooley’s Historic Boatyard when passing through Banbury. Open Tuesday to Saturday mornings and there may be a volunteer available to show you around. Museum, dry dock, machine shop (belt room) and working forge. Good place to spend an hour immersed in the history of the Oxford Canal.

I am the OP, created another account because I do not have access to previous account, so I could not reply to Wind up merchants. For those that are interested. The resolution is boat has not been found, CRT having not sighted the boat at all even though photographic evidence on here within a time frame they should of noticed it, Refunded our licence fee, rather than go to court. After the refund was placed into our bank account, I received an email from CRT saying a refund would not be possible under the terms of our licences agreement with them. So obviously departments within CRT do not communicate with one an another. Now onto LG, the story goes like this: Boat sold on 12th April, cash. Person who bought LG, did not attempt to insure or licence, moved it to Wigan. Came back 7 days later LG had disappeared ( again ) person who bought boat walked home didnt report it to Police, nothing. Now, I find that extremely odd. That is all the information I have. I just wanted those that are genuinely interested to understand what has been found out. GMP said good luck and gave a crime number, even with the information, above, given to them they phoned me and said we still won't investigate. I am not following the thread, and won't be drawn into an argument again. I do apologise for any offence I caused, however I really was not in a good place at the time. Good morning, I collect old engines and recently I bought a Gleniffer six cylinder marine engine, the engine was built in 1933 I was told , it runs on petrol then TVO , that is all I know for certain. This is the first engine I have seen without a flywheel, instead there are thick steel disc’s on the crankshaft. if anyone has any information at all about what model engine this is or a manual please let me know. Thank you .

I thought this thread was about a generator engine! Seriously, that’s a lovely engine. TVO brings back memories of my dad and his TVO Ferguson tractor.

Header tank for the radiators is unlikely to be under the rear deck, too low. It must be higher than the highest radiator or pipe.

Thanks! I was wondering about how the load lightens as you sell it. Its rather different from transporting a full load from A to B then unloading the lot. Where will you be trading out of interest? Ozzie Fuel Boat covers the eastern end but I've heard he isn't a well man. Are you taking over that section? (Or maybe you'd rather not say.)

Nothing wrong with being loaded bow down. In fact it's the right way to load a boat.

One thing puzzles me, with having a cargo space which is approximately half the length of the boat won't it be bow down when fully loaded? If we look at a working boat the majority of its length is cargo space and the load is more evenly distributed along its length. I'm sure the OP has already thought of this. I think the photo is a Jim Payler one.

There is no need to hold them down in that setup as long as the sides are packed to ensure 10mm or less movement (I think it is 10mm) and there is something to protect the terminals from shorting, which a deck board would be deemed to do.

Yes, but that does not affect using piston pars and valves rocking to determine TDC -- more or less. With number six on valve overlap its piston par, number 1 in most cases, will be at TDC, with the magneto in the TDC no.1 position. If the spark is needed before or after TDC one would mark the steel disk against a datum to show TDC, then measure the disc circumference and divide 360 by that circumference. That gives how many mm = one degree, so multiply the 1 degree measurement by the number of degrees and mark that off on the disk. Turn the engine so that the new mark is aligned with the datum, and the engine and magneto drive will be more or less in the firing position. If one has the valve timing diagram, you can use that to mark the disk with either the exhaust valve closing position or the inlet valve opening position, then use the circumference of the disk to mark TDC and then the timing position. It is a faff, but perfectly doable as long as you have the data. I feel that setting the magneto to TDC should at least allow the engine to start and run, be it badly, so further adjustment can be done by ear while moving the magneto round

Just used Google maps to take a measurement, and both above and below gives a width of about 75. something feet. However, that takes no account of the shape of the river bed on the north bank (town side) and the Google image has green splodges that suggests that there could well be shallows on the town side above the lock. That would put me off turning above the lock even more that the proximity to the weir and the inflow from the other side. Single handing and 70 ft, I would definitely do the prison loop. The only difficulty would be pressing the traffic light button when coming back upstream, but you could get yourself level with the button to press it and then drop back and hover on the current to wait for the lights to change. The button for downstream boats is on the lower lock landing, so is easier.

Well, the deed is done - Tarn is now 70 feet of liveaboard fuel boat, and due back in the water in a week's time at Better Boating in Reading. Once the trading licence is signed off by CRT we'll be up and running. She looks great out of the water - a lot (I mean a LOT) of tug deck, and Graham Sheasby, who's done the steelwork, has managed to get everything under the gunnels apart from the gas locker, which is disguised as a fore cabin (so it can drain/vent compliantly over the side). This week paintwork will be done, gas, water and electrics run and the beautiful refurbished pump installed (a classic-looking 1991 Tokheim, for those who care). To help me manage the trim she'll have an IBC full of (1000 litres) of water in the coal hold until we take on diesel and gas bottles; then I'll work out ballasting for a nice level trim. Called them and Jeds booked up for a year. Thanks all. I've managed to get old of a wonderful chap called Mark who came out to take a look. He's coming back on bank holiday Monday to do a temporary repair and hopefully last a a while till I can get it booked in on the next blacking in dry dock. Someone has also loaned me a generator so I get plenty of charge for my batteries.
