  3. It's been a long time since we had a proper Winter spell, a couple of Beasts from the East is about all we have had in the last 10 years. Starting from about Wednesday onwards, it really does look more likely that an extended cold spell could hit the UK for the first time since 2010. By next weekend, the temps will struggle to get above freezing in the daytime, and plummet overnight. We will have snow, how much and how long it lasts is an unknown as yet. In 2009 I was iced in for 13 weeks, in 2010, 2 months(2 locations in Central London so not quite as cold...slight thaw on 17th December). There is probably a large amount of boaters havnt seen a winter with the potential of this one so..... Stock up on coal, gas, diesel. Get your pumpout asap. Think about secondary glazing if you dont have double glazing. Fill your water tank. Make sure you dont block your vents. ...just a heads up.

  18. Right, I finally made it yesterday after a month off the boat doing me family stuff. Came down (and up) from Long Itchington yesterday, after a late start just made it for dark and came straight in pub. I like it. I think I very much like it. It’s a good pub. Thought it might be big and soulless but it’s a small gaff with a proper pub feel to it. Sadly I might have to stay longer than I thought, while I wait to get some coal. But hey, I’ll cope til Monday. £4.40 a pint which hurts, but the beers are ace and kept in proper top condition. Would I make a long detour again to get to it? Perhaps not, but it’ll always be on my stop over places should I be this way again. 👍👍👍

  24. You seem to be having a lot of problems with your cassettes. Time to install a pump out perhaps 🙂. Sorry, couldn't resist !

  25. My understanding is the OP wants this continuous, rock solid, bullet proof-reliable high speed connection for eight hours a day whilst actually cruising along, which could be anywhere. I don't think it is possible.

  33. Can't see that it would. The whole point of hiving off BW was to get the canals out of public ownership. I don't think anyone cares much about us boaters, evidence being Michael Fabricant apparently being our chief government supporter. No-one's taken him seriously for years. So licences will go up, so will unlicensed boats, the system will carry on falling to bits slowly, Parry & Co will get their bonuses, pensions and retire. I'll probably be dead by then, though, so it won't matter.

  35. I think that he is incorrect. Typical antifreeze has a lower specific heat capacity than water so carries less heat away from the engine. If you stick to between 25% and 40% antifreeze mixture it has little relevance to you.

  43. I believe everything I see on YouTube. Everything on YouTube is true. That's why it's on YouTube. It wouldn't be true if it wasn't on YouTube. Sometimes, I get the truth from Facebook, but mostly I just watch YouTube, because everything on it is true.

  45. Actually the general public, or taxpayers if you prefer, don't pay a single penny because there is no such thing as taxpayer's money. All money originates from the government and the government decides how it is spent. Nobody ''chips in'', they merely pay whatever taxes the government demands from them through the many forms of taxation. I've heard people say ''why should I pay for something I don't use?'', well they simply don't. Keith
