  1. Waterworks seems to be gagging for battles with CRT. Normal people just pay CRT's reasonable changes and get on with their lives, rather than prattling on about how recovering them is civil matter and CRT can't add them to the license fee or withhold a license. Such an idea would not even occur to most boaters who are happy to comply with reasonable rules in order to get well controlled and available moorings.

  11. That's us just set off on Kelpie after getting her BSS done ,( she passed) and getting her polished! We plan to head for Whaley bridge but how far we get depends on how the timing at Bosley locks works out Great to be on the move again ! Haggis

  17. CRT's failure/refusal to do this is the next rod they are making for their own back, IMO. Stealth boats seem to be getting slowly more and more common as scallies notice that CRT ignore the unidentified boats, rather than impound and lift them out. Going 'stealth' certainly helps make boats cheaper to live on as no license or BSS is necessary. Combined with CRT being a 9-5 Mon-Fri organisation now, I suspect all a stealth boater needs to do is be away from the boat during normal working hours to avoid contact with CRT staff.

  27. I doubt clogged, but if the injector is jetting rather than atomizing the fuel it won't all be burned so will produce black smoke (carbon) mixed with white smoke (vaporized fuel) and that could look blueish. Depending upon how diluted the oil is it could be passing a lot down the valve guides and piston rings. In my view the urgent job is to sort the dilution before the engine runs away.

  36. We are featured on the Foxes Afloat 'Swept Away on the Ribble Link' video. We were following them out of Savick Brook when they misjudged the strength of the incoming tide. It's a wonderful experience and nothing like all those sensationalistic Vloggers make out. I've had far more scary times on the Tidal Trent. Enjoy the Lancaster Canal, it's wonderful and we wish we'd have stayed on it longer than the 3 weeks we did. And don't miss out on popping down to Glasson Basin, it's well worth doing the 6 locks each way.

  38. The Huddersfield Broad needed my 57' boat at a bit of an angle and was a right faff to move the boat out the way to get a gate open, and then move it back across so the boat was pointing out the gate, so I really wouldn't fancy it on a 60'. Maybe slightly easier if you have two people so you can work enginers/ropes and gates together Really only a short, mostly industrial connection to do round trips on Huddersfield Narrow (which you can still access from the other end) rather than a canal you'd cruise for fun anyway though Quite a few of the Calder and Hebble locks have plenty of room, but the problem with boats at a diagonal on that particular canal is that there are overhanging platforms on the gate in the corners, so you'd need to be very careful. Just because you can fit in those locks doesn't mean you can necessarily fill them

  39. That's a shame, but the stolen boat looks nothing like a Springer, to my eye anyway!

  46. It’s now got a very useful canalside tesco….there is a micropub but it’s a bit of a walk from the cut…we looked at few canalside houses in rugeley with moorings….sadly the town centre is like many now and feels slightly neglected…still a useful stopping point for shopping on the T & M tho.
