    had a hull survey on the boat i just brought a few months ago and the surveyor said its amazing for an 1986 boat with no wear,dents or pitting to be seen... to say were chuffed is an understatement... can now spend some pennys on her without worrying if shes got a hull like a teabag.... her indoors has just done 3 coats of blacking so ready to get back in for weekend...

    That looks like the gear box selector lever to me, there is another one on the side of the engine. I think towards the back and on the starboard side a bit over halfway down. That one is the engine throttle control.

    Step off with the centre line,mallet and pin in hand,drop mallet and pin on the towpath,haul the boat in,stand on the centre line while driving the pin in.The best pins have a loop on top,so pass the line through it and tie back to the boat,any knot will do for a temporary stop to make a cuppa,have a pee etc. I wouldn't go back on the boat to get the mallet and pin,as even in a gentle breeze,the boat will be away,this is will definately happen if anyone is watching. 😰

    I thought I would have a look but only got to slide 2 to realise its usual bunkum. There is no problem with dentists, doctors and voting is a doddle etc etc. These are easy to overcome and were no problem in my 30 plus liveaboard years. I expect the rest is usual crap written by someone with ten minutes experience?

    In 2005 at Vincelles on the Nivernais canal the aftermath of a local tornado. We were moored just beyond this place and at one stage I thought the wheelhouse roof was going. We survived but some big trees came down blocking the road and the power was out for 2 days in the village. These local storms often happen in central france during a hot spell of weather.
