  7. Thank you for all the helpful advice. My stay in Liverpool was excellent. The trip through the docks was spectacular, our mooring couldn't have been better, and Liverpool has a real buzz to it. Just strolling around, people watching and visiting the touristy sites put a permanent smile on my face. I don't think, in the previous posts, anyone mentioned Mathew St. That's a place no one should miss. We were there the weekend of the Euro final so perhaps the city was a bit livelier than normal. Queues waiting to get into bars at 5 o clock was quite common. Yes, Liverpool should be on everyone's "must visit" list. The only downside was the amount of weed we encountered getting there. From bridge 17 southwards the going was heavy and slow. The end result made it bearable however.

  9. All drinking water is tanked at some stage in its delivery. The chlorine dissolved in the supply water will take quite a long while to disappear and in the meantime is sterilising your tank. Providing the tank is used regularly and refilled often I see no reason for not drinking the water, have done so for 50 years and I am only slightly do-lally and have only 6 toes on one foot.

  11. As Alan says have a look at second hand boats, looking at your info your in Dorset the nearest canal the K&A, I would say buy a good 52ft narrow, have it in a Marina your happy to drive to that’s not that far you end getting stressed with the distance/journey. Pick a Marina that has good facilities, many these days have a restaurant/pub, coffee shop and various other outlets, so if you just want to chill on the boat and not take it down the canal you can, maybe go for a breakfast and coffee, a pint and something to eat all within distance of the boat and just relax on the water. Find a Marina with various routes when you take the boat out, so you can explore more then one direction and not have to travel hours to get to a good location, as you say it’s mainly for weekends. Buy second hand and see how it goes, do you want the hassle of buying new, your already asking what engine? What’s next? You could tie yourself in knots on here, Just save all the time and stress and buy a nice second hand boat and go and enjoy and relax. Good luck.

  14. Just to clarify. The picture is not of one of their narrowboats. All pram hoods automatically self lower when they detect a bridge. 😀

  15. I presume that there is a high pressure fryer somewhere producing frites to go with the moules? N

  17. At our yard we used to use extreme high pressure water blasting for cleaning hulls etc. It is at a pressure that would do severe damage to your body parts if you were foolish enough to get them in the way, and meant there was no sand or grit to be cleared up - just the rust and scale debris. I believe this is known as evasive blasting. Tam

  18. In view of several inter-related posts about the abilities of CRT, there should be no surprise as to wrong words being used. Perhaps there should be a pervasive study made into CRT practice and performance by an old fashioned quango. There was a time when waterways staff knew the networks they were concerned with. The increasing number of posts on this forum lends to a concern that they do not. Fragmented repair work does not help the lot of the boating population and cosmetic alterations such as what was planned at Market Drayton without regard to boaters needs, does nothing to support any understanding of the network. But then those working from an ivory tower in Birmingham, or elsewhere around the UK, may not understand and it the fault of management when such failures are not rectified.

  21. Seems it's very much a "Marmite" boat. Personally I love it, there again I do have a "Northwich trader" which also generates equal number of love/hate comments. Interesting that it has two side hatches in the bedroom, I wonder if this suggest that this was originally meant to have an engine room and boatman's cabin but somewhere along its life, this was changed to a just a bedroom? Shame the owner is not looking in (maybe he is!) to give us some history. I will be interested to see what NB DW2 reports tomorrow.

  22. With hindsight perhaps you should change your pic to prevent you becoming the butt of jokes, or at least ask an Admin to get to the bottom of the problem

  25. Yes we will look into a survey. We made a very low offer which was declined so we certainly won't be spending a large amount of money without a survey.

  27. So I'm with Athy. We don't drink the tank water and bring water up to the boat with us in a couple of large jerry cans for drinking. Not because of the iron but because our water down here in Devon is proper soft water off Dartmoor, and your water in the Midlands is that 'orrible scummy stuff that makes the tea taste nasty !

  31. The water tanks are surely drinking water, never considered anything else especially if it’s boiled for a cuppa. It’s probably less safe sitting in an old plastic bottle Irons pretty good for you there’s plenty in most diets Leave them to consider the offer, it’s too much at the asking price I believe

  36. It could also be a server issue, get one of the Admins to delete “av-6877.jpg” from the forum uploads folder and try again (thats where it seems to be grabbing it from) not sure if the board itself uses a cache on its side of things as PHP and databases went over my head years ago. EDIT: Cover photo is the wrong one to change, thats the big pic in your profile, its the Profile pic you change (go to profile and theres a small edit button in bottom left of profile pic)
