  1. Actually Arthur, you probably make good sense. We have both realised we were a bit out of order Saturday night, blame lockdown boredom, wine, parent illness problems etc, it all builds up and occasionally you need a blow out. Unfortunately, it happened and it wasnt pretty. Our apologies to the boat opposite for having to move.

  3. That 950g of water does not exist within the litre of LPG, it is made during the burning by taking oxygen out of the air and combining it with the hydrogen atoms in the propane. You get CO2 as well from combining oxygen from the air with the carbon in the propane. UK LPG is near 100% propane. In other countries, there are varying proportions of propane and butane, which may vary by season too. There will be a little bit of water in there too, along with various other things, but it is a contaminant. It is the contaminant trace of water that is causing @system 4-50's problem. Might have had a bad cylinder with more water in than usual. Jen

  4. Leaving Walsall on Sunday morning, just moving out the Top Lock when Scorpio stuck solid. Thanks to Alan the CRT guy who was checking the water levels he got a couple of saws from his van and quickly removed the obstruction. After removal

  9. This specific incident aside, I'm not sure why this forum seems to have such a broad hatred for vloggers. Is it because people are jealous of the attention they get or they view them as somehow 'skipping ahead' in the canal prestige league tables? Yes some of them are new boaters (definitely not all) but they don't claim to be oracles of the waterways, they are just making a bit of light entertainment. There's no need to demonise them. I happen to think Mrs. Brown's Boys is the worst thing to happen to comedy for a generation, but I don't have anything against Brendan O'Carroll - in fact I'm sure he's a lovely man. And there are millions of people who no doubt adore that sitcom. You can criticise the content without hounding the creator.

  10. Not sure I follow. YouTube is a video broadcast platform, Facebook is more designed for sharing to people you know, and Friends Reunited was more about connecting to old school friends. I never used MySpace. The best way to learn is to ask questions. Try things and remember, usually through practice and repetition. This video tries to answer at least some of the questions people might have about this subject. I've seen many careful boaters who 'have been boating for years' not understand these principles because they haven't been aware of the issues or know the right questions to ask to learn more. I tried to make the video interesting and topical. Open to suggestions on how to improve the video or boating! Cheers, Mike

  13. Would you not be better off swapping the boat for something more suited to lumpy water boating?

  14. Here we go character assassination by the forum when it appears that it was really someone blasting music out at an unreasonable time.

  15. Nobody seems to have mentioned, open the paddles just a little bit at first - then the water doesn't "rush" in - and then slowly open them a bit more as the lock fills up.

  20. I think you think the restricted opening times apply from now until 2nd June, however I read it as applying only on 2nd June. You will note that the closed time between 11:00 and 16:00 match up with the restricted opening times posted. So I think you are off the mark on this one.

  23. Try watching it Arthur. If you had you’d probably not be clogging up this particular bit of space on the forum.

  26. I don't think I would consider Mike a salesman or someone who is after click bait I have enjoyed his videos on stating Listers, Bolinders and also his icebreaking which scares the hell out of a lot of todays boaters

  33. I find some of the vlogs to be quite calming tbh. Not really bothered about the production standards, sometimes the more "amateurish" ones are more enjoayable. The ones with all the gear and some idea can get a bit formulaic, but the easy option there is not to watch them. As for the couple in question in this post, I have seen some of their vlogs, won't be watching anymore of them.

  34. My vote goes to Andy Tidy and his Canal Explorer series, although it might have limited audience as it's all about the BCN. Extremely well researched and informative.

  35. The best Vlogger by far is David (Cruising the Cut). He's down to earth and very practical. There's always something to learn on his vids, and he's well worth watching.

  39. Last year I moored up on the Llangollen and a guy sat on top of his boat with a karaoke machine and sang until gone 10pm. I moved about 5 miles down and could still hear him, doors and windows all shut. The sound gets carried through the water, comes up through the hull and if you're trying to sleep, into your ear via the pillow. Playing loud music late at night is just antisocial, end. In fact, playing loud music is antisocial. You can hear a band in a pub miles away, and I'm damn sure either marina people can hear your noise or it isn't as loud as you say it is. It's a total lack of awareness that people have different tastes, and it is inherently objectionable to force your choice on everyone else, whether it's Black Sabbath or my trombone.

  48. I would only use a branded product such as Blue Seas or BEP. To me the image looks to be a copy of a BEP battery isolator.

  49. So you think it’s reasonable to play load music past 11 then do you because I don’t. Oh and they are public moorings opposite and people who moor there have the right to have some quiet. Oh and they weren’t filming at that late hour until the swearing stated, hopefully they’ll publish that on social media
