  2. I don't often contribute to the forum but as a person with a foot in each camp feel I must contribute to this thread. In my twenty years of boating and over thirty years as fisherman this is about context. As a boater going down the canal I speak to fishermen I know who don't recognise me because I'm on my boat and where they would normally be affable and friendly they become rude and surly. Vice versa with boaters I know who see me fishing. It's more about fishermen's prejudice against boaters and boaters prejudice against fishermen. I appear to have alleviated this problem by naming my boat with a fishy theme! But have yet to discover how to pacify boaters when fishing?

  8. Or why not just get a higher pressure Parmax pump and avoid the complexity of two pumps?

  9. May 1st 2005 early morning waiting to go on the dock. The big barge was having a new rudder fitted. They wear through due to the amount of silt in the water and the power of the propeller. Bit like sand blasting, this yard specialist in rudders and propellers and usually have them in stock for their regular customers.

  15. Not that we have ever moored in one of their marinas but I quite like Castle. Yes, they are growing quite rapidly. But I do think they are trying it on with the above costs. £6000 a year. I don’t think so. They bought Crick and Cropredy marinas not so long ago Cropredy they have just opened the third basin. They also have just bought the nye on deserted Marina not far from Rugby, can’t remember the name at present. They are growing definitely.

  16. Expensive. I have 27 days booked as a visitor spread over 7 weeks and they are charging me their monthly long term rate of £151 rather than the £270 for 27x the daily price.

  17. What is the actual flow rate at the shower? Try measuring how long it takes to fill a bucket with a known volume to get the real litres/minute. You may find that the limiting factor is the pipework, not the pump. I have an 11l/min pump, but the actual flow rate to taps is around 6l/min. My plumbing uses 15mm OD pipework throughout. It may be that a better solution is to increase the pipe diameter to the shower, or wherever else you want more flow. Need to measure first. The 11l/min is for the pump with no pipework connected to it. The longer the pipes, the more corners and fittings and the narrower the bore, the less water gets through. If the pipework is too restrictive, then more oomph on the pump won't make much difference. Jen

  18. I tend to agree - I'm not sure I've ever seen a "friend with a pole" up forward make any kind of improvement to a tricky situation, but I'm very sure I've seen them make it worse or put themselves in jeopardy!

  19. Thanks for all the advice! I'm not as panicked as I was, I'm also thinking there'll probably bit a plume of smoke from the first start that might obstruct others view of me screwing it up ? It's an Inboard engine so from Tracy's comment expecting it to pivot on the centre is good to know - can't remember from Matty's comment whether that's the one that steer like a BMW or not ? Will be taking a friend to help as best they can... not sure how much I'd trust them with a pole but that definitely would help if I ended up in a sticky spot against the marina edge. I'm going down this weekend so if any of the neighbors are around might see if I could borrow their experience! Will contact the marina too. It's a wheel, was trying to work out how to work out if it's on centre... tape when I get that is a great idea! It'll be put back onto the K&A at Portavon after a quick turnaround of the inside. There seem to be boats of varying size in the Marina, some considerably larger than ours so hoping we won't be confined to the berth - there is what looks like quite a narrow lock a bit further down from where we are so will research the width challenge a bit more before we plan any journeys - thank you! I've got boat safety, license and insurance (from my brief research I didn't fancy CRT fines ?). Thanks again everyone!

  23. We have now stopped just below Atherstone Bottom Lock - so only five easy miles to go before we arrive at Glascote Basin. This morning we were followed from our overnight mooring near Springwood Haven and through the Atherstone flight by the Redshaw’s in their very smart grey boat. When ‘Alnwick’ gets painted next year we hope to adopt a similar colour scheme.

  31. I'd say just a smile or a nod? I have passed the odd fisherman who is friendly. Two on the Staffs and Worcs even said they liked boats as they stir up the silt. Also passed the reading district anglers association at Froxfield, no less than 3 of whom got up to urinate on the towpath as we cruised past.?‍♂️

  35. Have you tried looking at inline filters website? They have a very good equivalents finder. If it is not there as an equivalent, measure the main dimensions including the thread size/pitch and you can look up an equivalent that way. You could also try online filters. They have a rep for being helpful. Vetus are rather good at buying bespoke auxiliary items, and charging the earth for them though. If you cannot find an equivalent it might be cheaper to swap your filter unit out with a Delphi 296 agglomeration filter. Loads on line- just ensure you get one with a metal bowl and drain plug to keep BSS happy. N

  44. I’ve been happy with Craftmaster Bilge Paint, but mine is also light grey, and I don’t know if they do red. I chose a light colour, as advice suggests that oil leaks and other issues will show up better than on the darker reds and greens that are often used.
