  4. Perhaps I could tempt her off the nest with some cornflakes. Or would that make me a cereal off fender? ??

  11. Not if you fit the EV between the non return valve and the calorifier inlet. When you turn a hot tap on that will just release cold water into the bottom of the calorifier.

  18. If you have all these mysogenistic trolls (as you call them) on ignore, how would you even know what they are saying? In fact as Alan has said people are only responding to some of the nonsense you write. That's not mysogenistic or the actions of trolls. They're simply correcting the misleading statements you make for the benefit of people who may not know. You're also not obliged to read the comments or feel the need to respond with insults. Nobody is insulting you, they're just correcting you. If I write rubbish I'll be corrected too and occasionally that has happened. Unfortunately when it happens I can't play the gender card.

  23. Quite a few on here have an interest in steam locomotives as well as canals. Some take it a little further: I have seen a narrowboat named "Evening Star" liveried in Brunswick green with black and orange lining, although I don't have a photo. Today at Braunston, obviously a LNER A4 fan. Anyone know of others?

  35. But let's not dilute the good sense in the rest of the good lady's post about adjusting your lifestyle to onboard living by concentrating on that rather poor comment.

  43. I took the plunge and pulled the pipes off to measure as I couldn't find any information online. Here's the results, in case it helps somebody else. On the bottom of the header tank, is a 35mm outlet, requiring 35mm I/D hose The other side of the pump is also a 35mm I/D hose (marked X below) On the thermostat to header tank connection, it's a 90 degree bend. A = 32mm outlet, requiring 32mm I/D hose B = 72mm C = 112mm D = 100mm The hot water take off for the calorifier is two 16mm barbed fittings. Requires 16mm I/D hose.

  44. Hi and thanks for the honest reply. I wouldn't shoot the messenger ?, I am a very experienced engineer with lots of boating experience and my friend is a carpenter so hopefully possess the skills, being of retirement age it's the internet skills that elude me so I thought I would make use of the knowledge here and maybe add a little. Thanks again. I hope I have replied in the right area of this site Regards Stan

  45. I wouldn't be unduly concerned. There are literally thousands of boats sat on landlines and thousands of others without landlines, both with rust spots on the cabin. The two have nothing to do with each other. Rust spots are a sign of neglect but who can honestly say they've never had any rust spots on their roof, decks or cabin sides? What it might tell you is that a 4 year old boat wasn't very well painted by the builder. Lots of budget boats aren't. If that boat doesn't have some form of earth isolation fitted on the landline then I'd be concerned, but that's a different matter. Before commissioning a survey I think I'd want to see evidence of a galvanic isolator or isolation transformer.

  48. Corrected that for you Haggis, hope that's OK? Is that going to fix a broken, bowed gate that is full of holes? 2 Week to hang a gate? Are they kidding?

  49. Is that now 28 stoppages across the network? That could be a new record for the start of the "boating season"....A term I loathe but seems appropriate this year given that you can now stay onboard in a hire boat etc. Whats more annoying is that many of these stoppages could be prevented with some pro active maintenance such as culvert inspections and repairing broken paddles so you arent reliant on one working paddle.
