  1. The Covid Pandemic is no-ones choice, the restrictions are in place to protect vulnerable people and the NHS. This isnt about their Vlog, its about them doing what is right in the present world outside their Vlog. The reason this is so bad now is that some people seem to feel justified finding ways round the rules, guidelines and restrictions.

  4. When in halls, one of the cleaners got quite worried that a friend's tomato plant never seemed to produce any fruit ... Mind you there was also a different lecturer who occasionally awarded a gold stars for good work - and handed you a square of blotting paper with a printed face and a faint stain on it.

  6. Yes, it is paranoia. You do seem to struggle with tow path living and people in general, telling many on here to "go away" and now to those on the tow path. Pandemic aside I do wonder if canal boating is a bit of a disappointment to you. I wonder if you might be happier in a flat with common stairs and corridors, in which by the way many families are having to be locked up together in misery with no gardens or outlook. You have a beautiful canal to live on and wait out this lockdown with minimal interference. Stop complaining!

  7. Let's come to a reasonable agreement to remove any source of potential conflict here. How's about lifeboats of this type don't venture onto canals and, in return, those with narrowboats agree to keep well clear of waters where these lifeboats are designed to be?

  11. Its not all about you Martin, it was aimed at what you typed, not what you should have typed if you wanted a specific response, and other related comments that were above. No doubt they read, or are told about content on this forum an others. I like their Vlog, however, I do not like their attitude to National Covid restrictions, both the first time, and maybe now(not bothered watching for a couple of weeks) See, not about you at all.

  12. To ‘ spray’ infection first of all you have to be ill. Secondly you have to be well enough ( symptom free ) to want to go jogging. Thirdly people have to want to go past your boat, and at the same time cough or sneeze. And fourthly you have to be standing outside ( possibly berating those who live in the area and have rights) and take a sodding great gulp of air that contains their exhaled particles. So its your risk, you should be indoors. Your right to personal space is only that of the footprint of your boat not the towpath around it. However when you go to a supermarket, which may be air conditioned, you are breathing the exhaled air of however many hundreds visited the supermarket before, and during your presence. Secondly ( and less relevant) droplets from infected people are likely to land on products and fittings inside the shop and get picked up by contact, where as on the towpath they will land on the ground, breaking the hand/ mouth transmission. Even the simplest person can see the worst transmission zone would be crowded indoor gyms, but I havent seen much evidence of it. What I have seen is clear evidence of viral load being distributed inside restaurants by aircon systems. All scientific evidence currently available indicates that outdoor exercise is safe, particularly with social distancing. Thats why it is encouraged.

  14. I don't really take either side in this. David Yule is a tad naiive to think that he could live as a bona fide CCer on a converted lifeboat. I've seen quite a few of these vessels on the waterways and he would probably soon realise it's unsuitable and he needed a mooring. However, on the other hand there are much more pleasant ways of talking to people and there's really is no need for the hate which was promised and then delivered by some on this forum. Once again it highlights a rather blinkered view of boating. As usual anything out of the ordinary that's suggested is chastised and castigated. Is this how you talk to people in real life? Actually, boating in a broader context is not the humdrum mono-cultural activity that some of you seem to think it is. It's different for different people. Personally I enjoy living on bigger rivers where one sees a diversity of craft of all shapes and sizes. So what if David Yule isn't interested in the waterways in exactly the same way as you are? I know people with narrowboats who haven't got a clue and aren't really interested either! Should they be denied access too? Boating is for everyone in whatever way they wish to do it (within the rules) and someone else who has a different type of boating interest has just as much right to enjoy it in their own way as you do. It's fine to criticise someone's suggestion if you think it's a bad idea or they suggest breaking the rules, but there's really no excuse for hate.

  23. Isn't it because we are decommissioning a lot of North Sea oil and gas rigs? They are now surplus to requirements. They moved on from selling instant mashed potato then!

  24. No, that is all your paranoia. When you are inside your steel tube you are perfectly safe, no matter how close people get to it. If you don't like people getting close then move your boat somewhere else. As I said, I'd be ripping your pathetic white sticks up and chucking them away, since you have no rights to stop anyone using the full width of the path.

  27. As Youtube influencers they are in a position to influence others to think it is OK to continue moving. And this is wrong, wrong, wrong. Just plain wrong however they choose to bend the rules. Their justification last time was they were making an essential journey. From one waterpoint to the next and then the one after that, and so on.

  28. Still in India and now Cochin. Inside the harbour there are lots of backwaters and these local boats carry goods and ferries run between the islands and villages. Now there are holiday boats that offer some luxury trips. There are also prawn farms . The Chinese fishing nets are at the entrance to the harbour and they work on the tides. The catch we saw was very poor. A finely decorated lorry.

  29. Surely the metal sides and closed windows on your boat will prevent any covid droplets reaching you? Why do you need to make an obstacle course for towpath users to negotiate? If the towpath surface is anything like here, people will walk on the grass as it will be less slippy and thus safer. Hope no one slips and falls because you are forcing them to keep off the grass beside your boat. haggis

  34. No. You really need take no action to safeguard yourself beyond not letting them into your boat, but close the windows that side if it makes you feel better. You really should not be setting traps for folk walking by - they are no threat to you, and only the police force should be taking any enforcement action where warranted. Stay safe Lady G, but try not to let paranoia creep in as it's probably more of a threat than the virus if you're not sharing indoor space with others.

  37. I find the OPs post strange if honest, I understand Nick's post back at him and in light of CRT wanting to impose even more T and Cs on us, for unsuitable craft on waterways. He is pointing out how some boaters would feel about a bright orange boat shuffling back and forwards a few miles, he is making a valid point that they wouldn't be happy. On our big waterways up here it wouldn't matter as it would be a tiddler to say the least, down where he plans to constantly moor it would be a nuisance a bright orange nuisance

  39. I refer to all of our extended family's kids as my niecephews ... The old joke when their respective mothers were pregnant was that I didn't know if they were having a boy or a girl, so I wasn't sure if I was going to be an aunt or an uncle!

  41. You can get away with it for years in a house, but a boat gets a lot more vibration so it fails and falls off much sooner. It's still a bad idea though - I have seen a few houses like Alan's picture where the insulation is sticky, and a few where it's fully flaked off. All you need in a house is someone to poke a cable when putting something in the attic, but all you need to do on a boat is start the engine ...

  44. I watched their latest Vlog a few hours after it was released, was watching just before they came to the flint works and just caught the commentary about moving and I’m sure they said they were in a Tier 2 area, when in fact the area was Tier 4 in current time, I went back to view a few hours later to confirm what I heard and the place where I thought I heard it was just a black section where it looked like it had been edited out, so I’m now questioning did I hear it? I found this strange as they are so meticulous with their Vlog editing and didn’t remember a black section previously. There are people on here who watch them and obviously think they are doing nothing wrong with their creative movement in Lockdown, while the rest of us observe the cruising restrictions. You will also see no negative comments on their Vlog comments, so quite obviously not telling the full story to their followers, who as you say probably think it’s ok to cruise in Lockdown.

  48. OK, so if we are on non-tidal, inland waterways the collregs as applied to nav lights don't apply, however, if you intend transiting from these to rivers you would require said lights ? Mind you, if I was approaching a bend and heard all this horn blasting going off I would seriously wonder what was happening. I worked on deck at sea for years but have never used the collregs sound signals in 23 yrs on the cut. I am not being intentionally obtuse but, at 2/3 miles an hour I could never see the point.
