  15. Ideal to be able to pull up and browse and buy something you don't need. When working in Manchester (10 years) I was running along the M56 / A55 every day back to N Wales, I'd often call in at Midland Chandlers, even bought a bath once because it was 'on sale', it took years before I found a NB to fit it into.

  28. Rubbish! I laid a Celotex floor covered with flooring grade chipboard with staggered and glued joints as per the above advice over an area of at least 50m2 6 years ago to cover and insulate an uneven and cracked concrete base. I did this over 6 years ago and it’s as good today as the day I laid it. That’s a good idea. Not as good as flooring grade chipboard but at least the joints are less likely to witness through the floor covering.

  31. Open again. Bliss. We had to leave mooring due to tree monkeys attending to reduce a willow weed down to a manageable height. Cruised off to the pub, drinks by the lock, steak dinner whilst visiting a historic village. Live music, kaleidoscopic tunnel experience, and good company.

  37. Eh? You close the door that has the shoot bolts. You reach behind it and shoot upper and lower bolts. You slam the other door shut. ... you remember that you’ve left the keys on the boat... Along with a pair of shoot bolts for the slide, that’s exactly the system I installed on WotEver after levering off the flimsy hasp that was on it when we bought her. Obviously this system doesn’t work for those slides that lift over the doors and lip over them at the top. Well, it works fine for the doors but you still have to secure the slide.

  40. On my visit-before-last, Well Creek was not navigable and our route across the Middle Level included Horseway and Welches Dam locks, the Old Bedford River and onto the Greater Ouse via the sluice adjacent to the Salters Lode Lock. I struggle to keep up with all the changes

  43. Why is everybody ignoring the fact that the OP has solar? He started this thread asking about his solar output. Sure, in autumn and spring he’ll need to substitute some engine (or generator) running and in winter he’ll have to rely on the engine (or generator) 100%. But right now his solar should cope admirably.

  49. Luckily, some boats are built with doors and hatches, even luckier ones have windows and roof vents. Ours have been open all day with flyscreens fitted allowing the gentle breeze to keep the boat cool. Being sat in a pool of water at around 20 degrees C helps keep everything far nicer than a 'ouse. Saying that, we are still sat outside with a lovely Sauvignon Blanc as it would be a shame to be inside on an evening like this.

  50. It's not going to stop. People will keep leaving the gates open. So the only thing to stop is worrying about it? Just a suggestion.
