  32. I think it depends on the engine. If you have a chug chug engine it’s fairly easy to judge the rpm. If you have a smooth multi-cylinder well silenced purring engine like ours, it is much harder. Obviously we could cope without a tacho but it would be a drawn out process of trial and error to end up at the optimum rpm. Set a random throttle position, wait for boat to settle and then adjust down if too much wash, up if going too slow. Very difficult to judge the rpm from the sound and feel (because there is no noticeable vibration). With the tacho I simply set 1300rpm (narrow canal), 1400rpm (wide canal) 1500 rpm (river) etc and forget.

  38. Just seen this today https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/news/tesco-boosts-delivery-and-collect-slots-by-100000-amid-coronavirus-crisis/ar-BB11Xnfx?li=AA54rU I booked the slot the day after my last delivery which was 3rd March I think. Feel a bit guilty now about my previous delivery. Our last order was on the Coventry by the CRT yard at Hartshill. We'd moored just after the bridge (Atherstone side), with the plan to pull the boat back onto the wharf by the yard, Tesco pulling into the car park there. The day before the delivery date John was rushed into hospital. I thought about cancelling the order, but then I though as every Tesco driver we'd had over the years had been so obliging, I thought they wouldn't mind if they wheeled the shopping literally 3 boat lengths further so I didn't have to move the boat. We were having gales at the time, and there's no way I was going to move the boat myself. The delivery driver arrived, and he wasn't the sort of obliging delivery driver we were used to. He said I was asking for too much service! I'm afraid the balloon went up... With everything I'm afraid I'd had enough ?. I complained to his boss on their phone, who then spoke to the driver for about 5 minutes, he was arguing that about 100ft was too much. While he was arguing he could have delivered the goods three times over. Anyway, the upshot was that I got £50 knocked off my bill. I've got my fingers crossed the same driver doesn't return - I don't think it would be good for John's problem ?

  41. Just been up the Llangollen to Trevor basin, hire boats everywhere and one moored on the turning point ? I had to reverse all the way back to the junction just like the last time I was up there for real ?

  48. MtB has his Lithiums in parallel with his Lead Acid, with an isolator between them - more than that I dont know, but it seems to be working for him. I toyed with that, but it seemed that a close eye needs to be kept in order to know when to have the isolator open or closed. I like the idea of single cells and a BMS that takes care of shutting things down, and starting them up again, as events occur, (hi and low voltages and temps, it seems).
