  9. Thanks to all for the offers of help, I’ve managed to have sight of the review now. The lads at CTS and myself reckoned that the finished boat was so vivid that a commemorative beer called Swandazzler should have been brewed to celebrate the completion. Truly, it was a marathon!

  15. I think it needs to be fitted to the offside of the A45 bridge in Braunston, Bridge 90, to stop any more widebeams travelling the N Oxford.

  16. The canal will be closed near Barton aqueduct from 8.00am on Wednesday 5th February 2020 until further notice. As yet no reason has been given for the stoppage. Info from the Bridgewater Canal Company.

  26. It actually says "Message" (just to avoid looking for the letters 'PM')

  28. Hi Kevin .... Hull was my birth place! Good advice to ask others with solar in the marina ... thanks, and I was pondering between the bronze and the next one up for the Canal rescue but I think I will take your advice and stick with the bronze. Thanks for the input ... Neil – NB huami

  33. All good stuff. I couldn't even get a consistently wrong compass bearing. If I moved the compass by a foot then I got a completely different number! In the end I didn't use any navigational aids, beyond the Mark I eyeball to fix a transit line from the next buoy to a landmark on the horizon. I only expected to use the GPS in the event of heavy fog - in which case something would have gone seriously wrong with the planning ... Here's the sun compass, pretty accurate. But you do need some sun ...

  34. Actually... technically, disconnect the positive first and then the unit can’t find a possible spurious negative return via the exhaust/aerial braid/anything else that shouldn’t be connected to the hull.

  35. The whole selling point of Dysons is that they don't lose suction. What they've done is replace a dustbag which only reduces suction when it's full, with a filter which blocks easily and an overly complicated design which traps dirt and required the thing to be dismantled fairly often to clear it. Or you can buy a Miele, which is better made, better designed, cheaper and more reliable. Never needed to spend half an hour with a screwdriver taking my Miele apart.

  42. I've never understood the 4' thing either. That's not really wide enough to be called a double. My bed is 4'6" wide and is perfectly fine to walk past. The bed is a proper size and I get the added benefit that I can buy a mattress from any bed shop, fitted sheets fit properly etc. I often look at boats for sale out of curiousity and see really high spec boats with well thought out layouts, but with a 4' bed - and think to myself "that's the first thing I'd change"

  43. If you have a caravan on you will not be overtaking me! Say it however you like but hard shoulder running is a death trap supported by the number of people who have been killed on them recently

  47. Fire damaged GRP might be a difficult repair, I've never done it though. Fire damaged steel boat? I would say that so long as its not distorted then yes. Its a better bet than a knackered old joey boat that many of us started with. Big job but yes, have a go but keep the towpath and boat tidy to avoid attention as much as poss.

  48. You would do well to give your position within 100 mt by compass bearings and its just as easy to miss hear 8 or 10 numbers
