  3. I have one of these 5kw Bubble corner sstoves - the supplier is Haworth Heating (up in Humberside iirc) and they can supply any spares you need. Full details can be found on their website. To your problem. The thrust of the above is correct - the plate should be sitting high up in the firebox, just below the flue. The retaining tangs are not on the plate, but rather on the stove: one either side towards the front and one at the back that the thin end of the almost triangular plate sits on. The front ones are higher than the back, so the plate slopes slightly front to back - offer the plate up so that it is just above the front side tabs, then slide it back til the rear sits on the one at the back, then lower the front until it sits on the 2 front side tabs. It doesn't lock in, but rather just sits there and is easily disturbed. This isn't normally an issue as it's so high up above the fire. You need to drop the plate occasionally to clean crud off the top and, of course, it should be removed for the regular flue sweeping. If you don't do these things, you'll find the fire becomes "fumey" which is not normal for this stove which, if you haven't already because of your plate issue, you'll find is really rather a good one. I've had mine happily burning continuously for 2 months with little effort. The fuels that I've found to suit it best are Newheat and Excel. Hope that helps to keep you snug and safe this winter.

  4. You could use the Churchill technique. "Sir, only my good manners prevent me from calling you a moron.". I expect that would be technically compliant.

  15. Just musing about what is going on here with this nice Mr Pompey. I suspect Mr Pompey is accustomed to chatting to boaters on the towpath and with customers, and average boaters not being very clued up electrically he has become accustomed to people taking his dodgy advice and scaremongering tales about how dangerous LiFePO4 batteries at face value and without question. He probably gets thanked for his advice and warnings even though much of his advice on pretty much any electrical topic will be similarly riddled with half-truths and stuff that is plain wrong. Now he turns up here peddling the same load of twaddle and is rather taken aback to be challenged to produce evidence to support the incorrect assertions that trip from his tongue in such an easy and practiced way. Quite a shock I would imagine. Its a curious schtick he responds with I've not seen before, "ok hands up so I am wrong about that particular bit, but who knows everything in life, certainly not me".... but learning nothing and carrying on handing out the duff advice....

  17. The tap handle could be extended beyond the box and could be knocked on and off with a stick from on deck without rumaging down there. Personally I'd rig up an on-off control with Meccano with thin bowden cable and pulley's or Meccano rods and clevices.

  34. Try adding a heavy pizza stone. Makes a world of difference in a naff oven, but obviously takes a bit longer to get up to temperature. A decent oven thermometer helps too if you are trying to get bread just right.

  35. Using a phone like that is WiFi! All WiFi is is the radio communication between a device and say a router/access point. In the case of the phone, the phone is operating as a router.

  36. I had a similar experience. I was given a small Android tablet which only had a tiny installed memory, so I installed a large memory card. Not only was shuffling content a pain but certain apps simply cannot be moved to a card, they have to stay on the main device. Despite not being an Apple fan, for mobile devices they take some beating. There again, if OP struggles with an iPad then I don’t think he’ll get on with any make of smartphone.
