  3. Just a friendly word of warning. I do not look at canal stuff on you tube as a general rule, however I once had one come up to watch so I did!!! I then looked at several others often by what it seems are prolific posters. These people give mountains of advice on all things boating and living aboard. It was blatantly obvious to me that apart from much of it being incorrect that many, in fact nearly all are newbie boaters with less than five years boating. Just be careful what advice you follow!!!!

  10. Did he??? I thought he was dead! But being serious, it is more that the proprietor has an "I have an irrational hatred of CRT (and BW previously) and seek out every opportunity to heap criticism on them even if this involves making stuff up", kind of thing.

  24. Despite the high starting current the in use time is so short you on;y discharge start battery by a very few amp hours so they last for many years - probably 10 years or more unless you have a starting fault.

  27. The first canal I took the current Mrs T, when we were courting, was on was the Roachdale from Sowerby Bridge, to Summit and return. It will sort out "The men from the boys." You will learn much about boating and relationships. Survive that and you will manage any canal. Stunning scenery and Hebden Bridge is well worth spending a day or two in: http://www.hebdenbridge.co.uk/ Shire Cruisers: https://www.shirecruisers.co.uk/index.php Well appointed and turned out boats.

  31. Although I can and do think and speak and use some imperial units such as pints of beer and miles per gallon I am mainly a metric thinking person. I have not only worked in metric and SI units my entire carrier but also received education in the same since the start of my secondary school education. I think, therefore, that mm are every day and ''real ''units and inches are units from bygone era that rather quaintly remain in use in some sectors.

  32. Thanks for coming back and telling us Danny, so many don't bother. Without in or out of gear info it was the most likely thing to fit the symptoms. A dive plate failing would probably go quiet in gear with revs on.

  33. Thanks Wotever, I'll nip up there and get it. I have my oxy-acetylene gear out to remove someones rudder bearing I could have soldered a new port in at the same time.

  35. Do you have a mains land line on your boat? We have fitted these and are most useful when hooked up. Not had any issues with any attachment being "Buggered up." We also use the USB sockets from the inverter when cruising.

  39. 1) I believe there are only two-sizes, by a length of each. 2) Find someone with the same gland / shaft size and ask them 3) Wait till you get it out of the water - It'll be out for at least 7 days so you can measure it, nip to the chandlers (or buy on line with next day delivery) and pop it back in.

  40. The Daily Mail of the waterways news outlets. Doesn't let fact checking get in the way of their editorial line. I've pointed out minor errors to them in the past and they have corrected them speedily. When the fact invalidates the entire thrust of the piece it has been ignored.

  44. Batteries loose a surprising amount of capacity when they get cold, take them to the pub with you to keep them warm, ideally sit right next to the fire. If you can coax them through the winter you can probably get another year out of them. ...............Dave

These peeps are doing us all a favour working out the various bits and pieces required for this new battery tech, by the time those of us who don't do the bleeding edge of tech are ready to install these bats, all the complex stuff will be sorted, it's a win win Plus of course they enjoy this stuff, I mean really really enjoy this stuff and good on em

  49. On reflection, How was this "feedback" obtained? Was a poll conducted to determine whether the forum should include a Political and Current Affairs Forum, or was a decision made by the admin team, based upon the lobbying of a vociferious minority? As six of the eight threads started in the Political & Current Affairs forum, since it was introduced, have been started by the same person, perhaps it should be re-named the "Parahandy Soapbox" forum.
