  2. In my opinion, any article which says "amperage" instead of "current" is best ignored.

  13. Accuracy (or more correctly resolution) is not the same as calibration ... But I may be preaching to the Pope here, not the choir!

  14. Same for me. I guess it comes from my Electrical Principles tutor hurling his blackboard rubber at anyone who said "amperage"! ?

  17. It was tied on the offside moorings above Cowley lock last time I saw it a couple of years ago, but was fitted with a full length cabin in about 1968 - and retained its 15hp Bolinder

  19. Don’t know about your marina, but in ours the curtain twitching would be to see if you needed any help. But then we do have a first aid/first responder team here covering 24/7 and carrying an emergency phone which is texted by ambulance control whenever an ambulance or paramedic is tasked to the marina. Since I became ill, we’ve been overwhelmed with offers of support, lifts to and from hospital/GP surgery/pharmacy/shops/whatever. Anyway, glad it’s all’s well that ends well for you.

  28. Hmm. Not sure but I guess they must have thought of that. Perhaps there's an indication on the triggered alarm.

  29. You can get interlinked wireless co alarms so that if you is triggered, they all sound: https://www.screwfix.com/p/fireangel-w2-co-10xq-wireless-interlink-carbon-monoxide-alarm/8931d#product_additional_details_container

  30. If you do get 'alerts' when running the engine or Webasto it shows that you need to do something (unless your engine compartment is hermetically sealed from the rest of the boat).

  32. I've just ordered 2 x 252Ah Leoch Pure Lead Carbons from the Battery Store (Leoch's own shop, I believe), where they're priced at £450 each - so about 25% cheaper per amp hour than the 100Ah ones, if my maths is correct. I think the price might have dropped since you posted this though; I don't remember them being that cheap a month ago. They're still £590 each at Alpha Batteries. Suits me very well cos the 100Ah ones wouldn't quite have fitted in my battery locker.

  34. Indeed - ISO 9000 is the biggest con to hit the whole world. All it says it that your manufacture is 'consistent' it does not say that you make 'high quality' products, but, the public perception is that an ISO 9000 company produce 'good quality goods'.

  36. The low warning light on an inverter may not come on until well below the recommended max battery discharge of 50%. It may well not illuminate until batts are down to well under 12.00v, effectively 100% discharged. Read the inverter manual to see if it states what voltage, and report back. Or just tell us the make and model of inverter. To fully recharge a properly flat battery would typically take about 12 hours of engine running, depending on myriad factors like capacity of battery, output of alternator, engine running speed etc etc...

  47. Take a look at post #7 in this thread. I think I might have one of those regulators kicking about. Maybe that could get the charging voltage down far enough. @Sir Nibble?
