  15. Nicely filmed. Appreciate the non judgemental approach and no attempt to find a novelty angle, just good straight forward filming. Hope you can stay true to that approach if and when you go professional.

  17. Loads of us have done this many times over the years. There is always a choice of places to park, roadside, car parks, pubs etc etc etc. I have never had a problem. Best thing is make sure you have a banger that you are not worried about leaving anywhere, having an expensive car makes zero sense at any time of life but whilst cruising even less so.

  18. The land between the Grand Union, River Cole, and the old Great Western Main Line through Small Heath in Birmingham is known as the 'Ackerdocks', subsequently shortened to rhe 'Ackers' by some latterday youth workers/community gurus. In my childhood/youth, it was the most wonderful adventure playground where you could dig into the Victorian (and later) spoil tips from Birmingham's Refuse boats from Montague Street, for treasures like old glass bottles, digspent bullets out of the B.S.A. test firing range, bounce up and down on the disused wharves like trampolines, and if you found the right engine driver, spend the day shunting rolling stock in the cab of a 0-6-0 'Matchbox' at Tyseley Engine Sheds. Happy Days.

  21. It could be tooooooo narrow even for a narrowboat by then, if my trip down the K&A at the moment is anything to go by.

  25. Hi all, I've recently brought one of these engines from Marine Enterprises and I'm very happy so far. I brought it as a replacement for a knackered Lister CE . The engine went to Paul Redshaw for some prep work before installation. He changed the gearbox for my existing PRM , fitted new fuel pipework, replaced the air filter and alternator and then installed it with Roger Farrington at Braunston boats doing the steel work, and they did a very good job. Its worth remembering that these engines are designed for ships lifeboats, and as such they would not need to to run for long periods, as opposed to the Sabb 2g series. To this end these engines are direct injection units, and the injector service interval is only 200 running hours. Also, the owners manual recommends the use of 'road grade diesel'. I've just had my injectors rebuilt and will be refitting them this weekend after my 6 week summer cruise. There is a series of 4 videos on youtube focused on stripping down the cylinder heads and overhauling a 2j engine which you might find helpful. So, on the whole I'm very pleased with my new old engine, I lost count of the number of people who admired the noise it was making during the summer and I'm hoping to get much more good service from it. 31. No, he is still banned. It seems it is easy to ban people and impossible to un-ban them. Allegedly! But I don't think he is grieving over it.

  45. An update to the boat moving. I got PaulJ, who is a member on here, to move it. I very much recommend him. He's like a boating superhero. His website is: http://narrowboatmover.co.uk/moving-your-boat He was very experienced and a very nice and helpful chap.

  46. So to heat my narrowboat I will need a butty to carry the gasifiers, another boat to house the generator that burns the gas to power the fans and a fleet of boats carrying wood chips to keep the system fed.

  48. From the blurb... "Zomboat! begins when the zombie apocalypse is unleashed in Birmingham and sisters Kat and Jo, together with unlikely travel companions Sunny and Amar, must flee for their lives by canal boat." Of course they must, it's obvious that if you need to flee from anything you should do so in a canal boat. Being moored between Braunston and Napton this afternoon we were passed by numerous boats that I can only assume were fleeing from zombies.

  49. Controversial perhaps, but I see no reason to slow down as much when passing a boat on its EOG mooring as an occupied one on mooring stakes or even goat chains. . The owner knows there will be a rump of speeders so will have tied his boat up accordingly. Won't he??!
