  15. Frankly, don't ask in the first place. Just start living there. If you keep your head down sufficiently no-one will notice or care. If you get rumbled and challenged, you'll know you weren't flying below the radar enough.

  23. I know it well. Bramcote is a 5 minute drive away. A little aside. A few years ago as we cruised past the line of moored boats just up from that bend we noted that several (most?) of them had brand new cratch covers, all identical in style, all made by Kinver Canopies. We guessed they had got together and done a bulk deal.

  32. We've got ours set up with Alexa so Alexa can talk to the router and the router talk to Alexa. They spend all evening arguing with each other. The duck doesnt get a look in.

  37. Reminds me of my old 'boss'. Customer phones the sales office and asks for a price for some components, the sales girl give him the price and he 'explodes' "how much ? that's ridiculous I want to speak to your MD". Gets put through to the MD, who gives him the same price, the customer then says "XYZ sell them for half your price" so the MD suggests he buys them from XYZ. "Ahh - but XYZ don't have any in stock" says the customer, to which the MD replied "ours are half the price as well when we don't have any in stock".

  41. My teltonika router switches sims on low signal etc and can be set to reboot on no response to a ping. I have heard that bra underwires work well if phased properly.

  46. We did the Slough Arm on the 4th & 5th of September this year, so just a couple of days ago, and yes, there is something special about taking a boat over an aqueduct. We found it S hallow and weedy, with three or four trips down the weedhatch in each direction. There is nothing at the basin, and the water-tap will be 'difficult' to find, even if you know where it is - we didn't but then we didn't need it. I'm kind of glad we did it, but it's not on my list of waterways to revisit. The Wendover Arm, on the other hand . . . . Edited to add - plenty of moored boats after Bridge 6, by the boatyard.

  48. A lot of the comments about stop-start are just FUD from people who don't understand how modern systems work. My car has it, whenever I stop so does the engine. When I lift my foot off the brake it restarts before I can press the accelerator. A similar system on a boat would be triggered from the Morse control (presumably with a delay before turning off) and I doubt it would contribute any significant delay. On reliability, my car has not once failed to restart in three years, why should a boat be any different? Yes the starter needs beefing up and designing for a longer life, but this is hardly difficult or expensive.
